Using an Awakening serum was no simple matter.

Pan Long had thought he could just take a syringe and give himself a shot, like in the movies, and be done with it. But Wesker took him to the laboratory, where he first weighed him, then tested his physique, and finally drew some blood for experiments.

"Does it really have to be this complicated?" he asked, puzzled.

"If you only wanted to become one of those mass-produced enhanced Warriors, I could inject you right away," Wesker explained. "But you're getting a custom Awakening serum. Both the formula and the dosage have to be redesigned to maximize its effects. Trust me, I'm the expert on this. Even Director Spencer can't match me!"

What else could Pan Long do? He had to trust the expert.

If he wanted an Awakening ability, there was no avoiding the needle.

In the Nine Provinces World, he would never have let someone he had known for only a few days give him an injection. Here, he had fewer worries.

He had already put away everything important. At worst, he would die and respawn back in town.

As it turned out, Wesker really was reliable.

He spent about a week running a series of tests, then prepared a box of serum specifically for Pan Long. It held twelve doses, one to be injected each day.

"That many?" Pan Long was surprised.

"I reduced each dose to ensure your safety," Wesker explained. "Of course, that wastes quite a bit of material and makes no sense from a cost standpoint. But since this is a custom serum, cost isn't a concern."

He went on at length about things like "thresholds," "delayed effects," and "adaptation." Whatever it all meant, it certainly sounded reasonable.
