Once the fence was up, the Holy barrier protecting the outpost began to take shape.
The moment the fence closed, a ring of white light spread from it. The light quickly seeped into the surrounding darkness and vanished without a trace.
Then countless monsters roared from deep within the darkness.
Pan Long knew exactly what was happening—a monster siege.
Monster sieges were a familiar game mechanic. As for why the monsters never gathered to attack when a town was first being built, insisting instead on waiting until it was finished or nearly finished, that was simply how "fate" had arranged things.
(Some anonymous game designer: It's for gameplay!)
Pan Long had no intention of hiding behind the fence. On the contrary, he wanted to see whether any relatively powerful monsters had joined the attack on the outpost.
Holy Longsword in hand, he stepped outside the barrier.
Before long, he saw countless skeleton soldiers converging from both ends of the street. Their sheer numbers made him wonder what on earth the old count had been up to back then.
"Tsk, tsk. With a force like this... he could have fought a whole war." Pan Long swept his gaze across them and estimated that the skeleton soldiers on both sides numbered nearly a thousand, with more still arriving. "Hamlet Town could muster this many fully armed soldiers? Was that count actually a feudal lord with real power?"
Count Hamlet's territory was indeed sizable. Centered on the town, it included a Bay, a forest, and a stretch of open country. With normal development, it could have supported at least forty or fifty villages, three or four towns, and a port. Hamlet Town itself could have grown into a fairly large city.
But that territory... honestly, it was nothing exceptional among the great nobles
