Pan Long waited until midnight before the one he was looking for finally appeared.
Or rather, the Demon he was looking for.
Ghostly shapes crowded the woods. Transparent figures screamed without a sound as they flew between the trees, stirring up clusters of green ghostfire.
By its glow, strange figures emerged from the ground and wandered aimlessly through the woods.
They were all women, tall and short, fat and thin. The tall ones stood over three meters high and looked like bamboo poles; the short ones barely reached a meter, with feet almost directly beneath their waists; the fat ones were swollen all over like corpses that had floated in water for days; the thin ones were skin stretched over bone, little more than skeletons.
Not a single one looked remotely normal.
Pan Long knew these women were monsters who had practiced evil arts.
In the original game's story, the Old Count had ruined countless lives. Some of his victims were righteous people with unusual abilities, like the Old Prophet; others were blood-drinking, man-eating Demons, like the countess.
The women wandering the woods belonged to a peculiar sect. Its members practiced evil arts that let them devour life and gain tremendous power.
The sect had once included both men and women, but the Old Count had deceived them. The Female High Priest worked with him to set a trap, killing every man in the sect as a blood sacrifice. She and the Old Count both gained tremendous power. A fruitful partnership, one might say.
But the benefits had barely fallen into their hands before the Old Count turned on his allies. He poisoned the wine at a banquet for the Female High Priest and the sect's leaders, killing the very partners with whom he had been celebrating half an hour
