Luo Qian woke slowly—he could hardly have stayed asleep. A strange beast that looked like a squirrel kept swishing its long-haired tail across his face. The old man had kindly eyes and a gentle face. He sat cross-legged on the ground, palms turned toward the sky, and did not look likely to wake anytime soon. Luo Qian glanced around. He was in a strange world surrounded by reddish-brown peaks. They were taller than any he had seen in his life—even in the Immortal Realm, he had never seen mountains tens of thousands of meters high.
