Luo Qian put on his doctor's face. Curious as he was about the whole affair, he was still a small fry. Better not get tangled in the grudges of great houses, or the little he had just achieved could turn to ashes in the blink of an eye. He could always retreat to the Immortal Realm, but what would Tie E do?
The girl burst out laughing at his solemn expression. "Relax. I'm not a patient. I just wanted someone to keep me company." She pursed her lips and raised her brows. "If I don't admit I'm Pale, they'll keep me locked up like this for life, without even anyone to talk to." Luo Qian frowned, and the girl tactfully said, "Never mind. I won't burden you with that."
Luo Qian guessed that she came from a poor family and had been bullied by the Fieldlog Lineage. He could not help feeling sorry for her. She was skilled at a board game resembling Go from China, one that was hugely popular in the Saint Realm. Unfortunately, Luo Qian knew nothing about it. She taught him, then pestered him into playing. Naturally, he lost some games and won others. Most people would have found that dull, but she enjoyed herself immensely, shouting and waving her arms in delight. Luo Qian could guess that this "lineage head's wife" had been lonely for far too long.
Someone delivered their three meals, though the people bringing the food never showed themselves. Instead, they sent the dishes over, table and all, through a special passage. The meals were lavish, with a little wine besides. The girl could hold her liquor. She drank most of a small pot herself and only offered him some when she noticed his gaze. "Um, you can have a little too."
