Then his craving for a cigarette struck. Seeing no one on the road, he took his attention off it long enough to pull one out. He had just lowered his head to light it when, in a daze, he caught sight of a figure from the corner of his eye.

In an instant, cold sweat broke out all over A Qiang's body. He wrenched the steering wheel with all his might.

He had already been driving fast, and in his panic he turned the wheel too sharply. The Chariot swept through an arc. As rotten luck would have it, another Chariot came from the opposite direction. The two were about to collide in a terrible crash.

Then the other Chariot's steering wheel suddenly turned. By a miracle, it skimmed past him with scarcely an inch
