Tang Changsheng had a token and had thought he could leave the city easily.
But the Gate Official gave the men beside him a strange look. "You say you came from Marquis Wu's Residence?"
Tang Changsheng's heart lurched. This is bad. The man was acting far too strangely.
He kept his expression perfectly still and asked, "Yes. May I ask what instructions you have for me, sir?"
"I wouldn't presume to instruct you. I merely suspect you're a spy!" The Gate Official's face changed. "Seize him!"
Tang Changsheng roared, "I have Marquis Wu's token! How dare you?"
At that shout, the soldiers guarding the gate hesitated and looked to the Gate Official.
The Gate Official's face darkened. "I said he's a spy! Why aren't you moving?"
Before he had finished speaking, Tang Changsheng struck. The man could no longer be trusted. Someone had probably bought him off already... At the very least, he was no longer on Marquis Wu's side. Where else would he have found such nerve?
Tang Changsheng reached that conclusion in an instant and showed no mercy. With one swift grab, he caught the Gate Official by the throat.
The Gate Official was a skilled fighter. Seeing Tang Changsheng reach for him, he flew into a rage and moved to block.
But his thigh suddenly went numb. His whole body stiffened, leaving him unable to move. He could only watch as Tang Changsheng gripped his throat and said with a cold smile, "All of you, get out of my way..."
It happened so suddenly that the soldiers guarding the gate looked at one another, unsure what to
