The Daoist holding the Bright Pearl gave a faint smile. "I should be asking you that. These are the Eastern Glory Lands. Why have you people from the Purple Dusk Heavenly Court come here and laid down the Yellow Springs Corpse Sea Formation?"
The Black-Robed Daoist had seemed somewhat tense, but hearing that question, he relaxed instead.
He was about to speak when the Daoist with the Bright Pearl smiled faintly and continued, "Look at you, skulking about and sneaking your troops across in secret. You made a show of besieging Suxu City while slipping away to Fuyang Mountain. Could you be looking for something?"
The Black-Robed Daoist's expression changed at once, a flicker of shock crossing his face.
The Daoist with the Bright Pearl smiled and flicked his hand. The pearl turned into a streak of cold light and shot toward the Black-Robed Daoist. Clearly, he had used words to break down his opponent's guard before striking.
At their level of cultivation, however, their Primordial Spirits and awareness were immensely powerful. Tang Changsheng could not tell exactly how strong they were.
But he could be sure neither was weaker than Lu Yuanzhen. In other words, both were at least Yang Spirit True Persons, perhaps even stronger.
Though the Black-Robed Daoist seemed, for an instant, to have had some secret thought exposed, he quickly recovered. Seeing the Bright Pearl shoot toward him, he swept his wide sleeve out. It billowed up and swallowed the pearl.
Then time seemed to stop. The Black-Robed Daoist froze from head to toe. Even his fluttering sleeve, down to its every crease, hung motionless as though encased in ice.
The next instant, he moved. His face turned ashen, and his sleeve burst apart. The ruptures raced inch by inch up his arm toward his torso.
