The faint smell of gunpowder drifted through the air.
Just as the Hound of Tindalos was about to devour the Gendarmerie officer, a bullet struck it in the head. But the shot did not stop it. The hound bit off the officer's head, then turned its shriveled, crocodile-like snout toward the gunfire. Deep malice lurked in its indistinct eyes.
"Run!" Florence roared when he saw that bullets had no effect on the creature.
His voice jolted the others out of their shock. They scattered without a second thought.

Florence broke into a run. He did not consider teleporting again. He had only three chances, and once they were gone, they were gone. Teleportation clearly could not shake the Hound of Tindalos. He needed to save it for when his life depended on it.
Screams rang out behind him as he ran. The Hound of Tindalos had chosen to kill the others first.
