"We're almost there. It's just up ahead."

Several adventurers, bundled up against the cold, left a trail of footprints across the snow-covered ground. Before long, they found a collapsed tower.

The tower leaned into the snow, most of its structure gone. A thick layer of snow covered what remained exposed, proof that no one had tended to the place in a long time.

"This magic tower dates back to the age of Netheril. Its owner was probably a Legendary Mage of the Netherese Empire, and quite possibly a member of the Council of Magic. After all these years, the tower's magic arrays must have stopped working, but stay alert and be careful." Tingen Archmage, the only adventurer not bundled up from head to toe, warned his companions. He wore an ornate mage's robe instead.

"A magic tower from the age of Netheril? It looks badly damaged. Are you sure there's treasure inside that'll make us all rich?" asked a fierce-looking man with a long scar across his face.

He had never studied history, but even he knew the age of Netheril had ended hundreds of thousands, perhaps even a million years ago. If the tower had been intact, the arrays inscribed within it would have protected its contents from the passage of time. Any magic item from that age could fetch a fine price.

But this tower was clearly broken. Could the magic items inside really have survived hundreds of thousands, or even a million years, without being damaged? Broken magic items were worth little.

At his teammate's question, Tingen Archmage smiled. "You don't understand. Magic towers from the age of Netheril were usually connected to Demiplanes."

"And those Mages generally kept their collections in those Demiplanes."

His teammates broke into delighted smiles and filed inside.
