When Jiang Hao stopped resisting the Book of Cyric, surprise flashed across his other face. Bewilderment surfaced in those dark eyes, and the Lord of Omniscience momentarily halted his encroachment on Jiang Hao.
For gods, being killed or consumed was not true death.
Gods were called eternal and undying because, in the Multiverse, they truly were.
When they died, the gates of the Astral Plane opened and drew in their divine essence.
Gods who fell into the Astral Plane were corrupted by the faith that followed them and suppressed by its powerful rules. Unable to channel Divine Power or contact their believers, they could only watch themselves gradually become floating islands in the silver sea. Step by step, they sank into slumber, their thoughts grinding to a halt.
But none of that was death. They still had a chance to return.
With enough faith and Divine Power, they could return to the Main Plane as gods looking down upon all living beings.
Being twisted by the Book of Cyric was different.
A god it twisted would become arrogant and deranged, convinced that they alone were the Supreme Uniqueness True God.
At that point, that god would be permanently "dead."
Given those two outcomes, the Lord of Omniscience had been certain Jiang Hao would choose to be consumed by him. But things had turned out differently.
