Background / History

Jiang Hao was an office worker from China on a company trip to Japan when a black vortex visible only to him carried him to another world. There, a primitive tribe worshipped him as its Sun God. The soul of their sacrifice, Baron Ian Albert, entered Jiang Hao and gave him memories of the surrounding world. Learning that established gods might destroy a false god without a Divine Kingdom, Jiang Hao resolved to hide and grow stronger. He soon discovered that the vortex could take him back to Earth 1.

On Blue Star, he performed miracles while taking on the roles of mythological gods. Back in the Otherworld, those performances gave him new Authorities, although possessing an Authority was not the same as mastering it. Research and conversations led him to pursue agriculture as a feasible route to the world’s recognition. He brought seeds from Blue Star and worked to spread better crops and fertilizer 14 17 49 71 183.

Jiang Hao ascended as Sandru, God of Agriculture, when he gained complete control of the Agriculture Portfolio. He later built the Primordial Core Pantheon while concealing his more important pursuit of Fate. His secret ascension as Fate Sovereign immediately brought him into conflict with the Lord of Omniscience, who tried to take over his identity through the Book of Cyric 197 287 393 394.

After returning to the Otherworld, Jiang Hao pursued Creation and prepared for war with the Creation Serpents. He strengthened his claim by developing a world around Pluto, then gained the Sun and Light Authorities while making preparations for the final confrontation 491 496 521 540.

Appearance

Jiang Hao’s ordinary human appearance has close-cropped hair and a fair face. He also assumes distinct forms for divine roles and disguises 1 2 290.

  • Amenominakanushi guise — White ceremonial robes edged with gold, a crown, snow-white hair, and pale-gold fingers 2.
  • Appearance shown to farmers — An old man dressed as a farmer, chosen to seem approachable to followers of the God of Agriculture 290.

Personality

Jiang Hao favors preparation, concealment, and indirect solutions over contests of strength. Under attack by the Lord of Dawn, he escaped with a mirror decoy; in pursuing godhood, he chose the achievable Agriculture Portfolio before more ambitious Authorities. He also uses a pantheon’s apparent pursuit of King of the Gods to obscure his plans for Fate 15 49 287.

He can be generous without abandoning caution. He freed Bamas from their contract after ascending, rewarded allies who helped him survive the Prophecy God, and removed himself from a train when misfortune aimed at him threatened its passengers. He nevertheless keeps his plans hidden when he considers trust dangerous 198 372 387.

Abilities & Skills

Authorities and divine power

As a true god, Jiang Hao can act through his Authorities and spend Divine Power to make his thoughts reality 198.

  • Agriculture — Knows existing agricultural knowledge and automatically learns relevant discoveries as they emerge 198.
  • Fate — Perceives possible futures and alters outcomes; the River of Fate can also interfere with thoughts and create illusory future Space-Times 392 538 539.
  • Sun and Light — His early sun authority lets him travel as a streak of light. He later gains control of the sun and, through it, light 15 540.
  • Limit — Making thoughts reality cannot fulfill contradictions; Fate’s influence can also be resisted or its constructed futures destroyed 198 539.

Avatars and world travel

  • Travels between Blue Star and the Otherworld through a black vortex 1 67.
  • Creates avatars and can sever their connection to his true body when investigating a threat, though doing so leaves them temporarily with separate experiences 329 369 377.
  • Can manifest power through a follower’s invocation of his divine name 290.

Planning and disguise

  • Uses Ian Albert’s memories to imitate noble etiquette and gain Archmage Tingen’s cooperation 17.
  • Takes on divine and mortal identities to gather faith, information, or access without revealing his plans 2 360 382.
  • Applies artifacts and alliances to problems he cannot safely solve by force alone 15 371 372.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Yata Mirror — Creates controllable duplicates of reflected subjects, up to demigod strength. Roughly eighty percent of damage to a duplicate transfers to its original; it cannot duplicate itself 14.
  • Wheel of Fortune — Weaves plausible changes to fate, but its use attracts misfortune. Powerful targets make the backlash more dangerous 67 71.
  • Eye of Horus — Reveals malicious discussion of its holder and protects and repairs the soul. A sufficiently perceptive target can detect its surveillance 67.
  • Longinus, the Godslayer Spear — Protects its wielder from otherwise fatal injuries below the spear’s rank and turns battle disadvantages into advantages; losing it carries an instant-death curse. Jiang Hao later gives it to Ieta 40 287.
  • Gungnir — A thrown spear whose strike is certain to hit; oaths sworn upon it are certain to come true 40.
  • Fragarach, the Sword of Vengeance — A Divine Artifact used to cut through Mekanshute’s projected whips 180.
  • Quill and Notebook — Manifestations of Jiang Hao’s Fate Authority, used to write changes to outcomes and initiate his ascension 387 389 392.
  • Fate Tablet — Formed when Jiang Hao condenses the River of Fate after ascending 393.

Relationships

  • Black Dragon Bamas — Initially bound to Jiang Hao by a Slave Pact; Jiang Hao later releases him, but Bamas insists on remaining his mount 71 198.
  • Lady of Night Shar — Shields Jiang Hao from the Lord of Dawn, later helps him against the Prophecy God, and advises him on the Creation Serpents 15 372 521.
  • Ieta Cavendish — Member of Jiang Hao’s gathering and the first shown accepting a place in the Primordial Core Pantheon; receives Longinus as a joining gift 20 287.
  • Fiona Russell — Gathering member whom Jiang Hao supports on her path toward godhood 20 541.
  • Avram Krell — Gathering member whose advancement Jiang Hao assists; Jiang Hao remains wary of his former ties to the Lord of Omniscience 20 354 540.
  • Corellon — Helps Jiang Hao survive the Prophecy God. In return, Jiang Hao allows elves to become Agricultural Druids without worshipping him 371 372.
  • Lord of Omniscience — Rival who attempts to seize Jiang Hao’s Fate Authority by eroding and replacing his identity 393 394.
  • Good Snake — Opponent whose claim to Light conflicts with Jiang Hao’s pursuit of the Sun; pursues him after he gains the Sun Authority 346 540.
