Athena Pallas?
No way. Had this goddess really turned herself into a male god to fulfill fate and overthrow Zeus?
The humans present were screaming inside. Every one of them felt shaken by a sight they could barely comprehend.
But the more they thought about it, the more Athena's actions seemed almost inevitable.
In Ancient Greek mythology, Zeus feared a prophecy that a son born to Metis would overthrow him. He swallowed Metis whole, only to suffer an unbearable headache. In the end, he had Hephaestus split open his skull, and Athena leaped out.
Because Athena was a goddess, the gods all agreed that the prophecy had been thwarted.
But in Ancient Greek mythology, a prophecy was, in a sense, a glimpse of the fate Ananke had decreed.
And fate could not be changed.
By turning herself into a male god, Athena fulfilled the prophecy and placed fate on her side... Perhaps she really could overthrow Zeus and become the fourth King of the Gods.
As for a goddess becoming a male god, gender mattered little to gods. Besides, in some myths, Athena had been both male and female to begin with.
