Ning Qing pinched a Grape between her fingers and offered it to Chen Shu.
Her slender fingers were pale and rosy. The peeled Grape was tender and green, held at her fingertips as she brought it right to Chen Shu's lips.
Sunlight lifted the sheer curtains, and the afternoon made everyone drowsy.
Chen Banxia sat opposite them, holding a bunch of grapes in her left hand and tossing them into her mouth one by one with her right. She chewed, spat out the skins, and watched the two of them across from her. Suddenly, her eyes narrowed and she shuddered.
Then she heard Ning Qing ask softly:
"Is it sour?"
Her little brother answered casually:
"No."
Chen Banxia looked down at the grapes in her hand. After a moment's thought, she realized the grapes themselves were sweet. It was the skins that were sour.
And not just sour, but astringent.
So what she lacked was someone to peel Grape for her.
Chen Banxia turned and looked around.
Her friend was much the same, holding a bunch of Grape in her left hand, her right poised to toss one into her mouth. But she had frozen in place, staring blankly at the lovely woman across from them as she carefully peeled a Grape.
"..."
No use counting on her.
She was probably hoping Chen Banxia would peel some for her.
Chen Banxia looked away and turned to Xiaoxiao.
The girl was peeling Grape, and had even brought a small bowl to hold them. It was full of peeled Grape flesh. But the instant she noticed Chen Banxia looking, wariness rose on her face. She turned to stare and covered the bowl with her hand.
