Chen Shu led the two sisters and Peach into the Military Academy. Zhang Suannai wore a mask; four people and one Cat went in together.
"Zhang Suannai, who's your opponent?"
"I just picked someone good-looking."
"What about the others?"
"They probably picked at random too? Only that 'Hey, hey, hey' girl locked eyes with a Nightfolk right from the start." Zhang Suannai paused, pinched her chin, and took on the tone of a detective. "The way I see it, something's been going on between them for ages."
"She stole an Otherworldly Beast Core from that Nightfolk in the Forbidden Land."
"How do you know?"
"I ran into them. They were still fighting when I found them, but the Nightfolk left when he saw me coming."
"How did she steal it?"
"Dunno. I didn't ask."
"How did she even run into that Nightfolk? The Forbidden Land's huge."
"I ran into her, didn't I?"
"Then why couldn't I run into anyone!"
Zhang Suannai's voice carried the regret—even irritation—of someone wondering why the wonderfully wicked chance to beat someone up and steal their treasure hadn't fallen into her lap. "If I'd known, I wouldn't have stayed so deep in the Forbidden Land all the time..."
"Who are the others fighting?"
"Muscular Girl picked a tiger demon, that Taoist picked a Nightfolk too, and I picked a bird demon. Then there's your roommate..."
"Who? Jiang Lai?"
"You don't know?"
"No. I haven't seen him these past two days."
"He signed up too. No idea where the Group Leader found him," Zhang Suannai said. "He picked a male fox demon. Hahaha! When we see him, I'll point him out. You'd never guess he was a fox demon."
"That's a little rude..."
"Oh!"
Zhang Suannai instantly wiped the smile from her face and turned solemn.
