Background / History

Transmigration and Shaolin

Meng Qi comes from Earth, with his transmigration arranged by the Demon Buddha. To conceal his disappearance, the Demon Buddha creates a replacement based on his thoughts, habits, and spirit. Yang Jian later gives that replacement a body made from Meng Qi’s Earthly flesh and blood, allowing his parents to continue their family life without losing their son 2138.

Early in the story, Meng Qi’s family forces him to become a monk and shaves his head. He longs to return to lay life, master peerless martial arts, and make a name for himself. He joins the Chat Group before entering the Six Paths of Reincarnation and immediately recognizes several members from stories familiar to him 1 2.

Reincarnation Missions and Shared Resources

The Chat Group gives Meng Qi access to cultivation knowledge and his own future. When its Store opens, he lists the Golden Bell Shield, Hundred Transformations of Divine Movement, and Five Tigers Breaking Gate Saber. Meng Chuan buys his techniques and supplies methods adapted to Lifetime World for exchange through the Six Paths 8.

Meng Qi uses Jiang Zhiwei and her master, Su Wuming, to exchange these manuals without openly exposing their unusual source. After his third mission, he purchases the early sections of the Eight-Nine Mysterious Art, Chaotic Heaven Treasured Mirror, and other divine arts. He also shares movement techniques and secret treasures with his teammates 11.

Against Demon Yuan, Meng Qi initially calls for rescue. Meng Chuan instead heals and strengthens him, then forces him to fight. Meng Qi defeats the demon with that temporary advantage and subsequently tends to his wounded companions 110.

Resisting the Demon Buddha

Knowing what awaits him, Meng Qi stalls at peak Outer Scenery. Advancement threatens Gu Xiaosang; continued resistance threatens Chonghe and his closest friends. The Demon Buddha escalates the pressure with opposing missions requiring Meng Qi to kill Lingbao Heavenly Venerable and Chonghe to kill Meng Qi 312.

Meng Qi asks Meng Chuan to intervene. Chonghe and the other companions eventually gain freedom from the Six Paths’ masters, but Meng Qi remains captive until he can sever his own ties to the Demon Buddha through Dharmakaya attainment. The feared mission to kill Gu Xiaosang is issued, and Meng Chuan supports him without making the decision on his behalf 355 356 361.

Meng Qi subsequently attains Dharmakaya several years ahead of schedule and passes the Demon Buddha trial. Although free from reincarnation’s control, he continues taking missions administered by Meng Chuan’s Other Self for their benefits 412 511.

Legend and Gu Xiaosang’s Return

Approaching Legend early creates another danger: his breakthrough will bring ancient powers back sooner and hasten the return of the Other Shore Beings. Meng Qi refuses the Ancient One’s offer of escape because leaving would abandon his world and the people he intends to protect 927.

Having understood “the Self as Self,” Meng Qi can attempt self-attainment of Legend at will. He refuses the Lamp-Bearing Divine Envoy’s demand to search Yuxu Palace, then pursues his breakthrough near the Fusang Ancient Tree. Lamp-Burning Ancient Buddha attempts to divert him into the Pure Land, but an intervening wielder of the Overlord’s Absolute Blade stops the seizure 1038 1040 1045.

After attaining Legend, Meng Qi returns to Yuxu Palace. The Chaos Green Lotus seed responds to his Legendary Dao Body and recreates Gu Xiaosang’s body. Their Three-Life Fruits had formed a concealed bond, allowing her spiritual light to remain within his True Spirit until rebirth became possible. His breakthrough also alters fate and signals a new era of returning Great Powers 1051.

Lord of Yuxu and the Other Shore Crisis

The Yuxu immortals unanimously appoint Meng Qi Lord of the true Yuxu Palace. His completed Cause of All Fruits establishes his legitimacy and implies Primordial Heavenly Venerable’s approval. He immediately advocates aiding Great Zhou against the Demon Race Buddhist Kingdom 1067.

When the Other Shore Beings return, Meng Qi’s allies are restrained and his remaining refuge is the Nine Netherworlds. He refuses to leave Meng Chuan facing Wusheng Laomu alone. Meng Chuan’s intervention ultimately keeps Meng Qi’s friends safe, and Meng Qi and Gu Xiaosang take refuge in the Nine Netherworlds 1733 2103 2117.

After reaching level 299, Meng Qi secures support for his Other Shore attempt while keeping Meng Chuan’s full strength concealed. He refuses Yang Jian’s suggestion to wait for Maitreya’s attempt as a distraction, insisting on acting when his own preparations are complete. Before leaving the Nine Netherworlds, he campaigns with Yang Jian against rival powers and their reincarnation schemes 2105 2108 2118 2120.

By his confirmed Other Shore stage, Meng Qi has returned to Earth with Gu Xiaosang, met his parents, and obtained a marriage certificate. He also begins replacing the former Three Pure Ones’ historical imprints as part of their Reducing to Emptiness 2227.

Primordial Heaven and Transcendence

In Primordial Heaven, Meng Qi refuses pressure from Taiyi and Yuding to enter their Yuxu lineage, keeping his connection to Primordial Beginning secret until he passes the required test. After the Minor Tribulation, the Primordial Beginning Edict publicly recognizes him as “Primordial Beginning Meng Qi,” revealing him as the Heavenly Venerable’s disciple 2277 2424.

Returning to Lifetime World, Meng Qi becomes a Most Ancient One and reaches the Root of Time. His presence restores a balance that had disappeared when the Three Pure Ones transcended, leaving Amitabha Buddha alone at that level 2425.

In Yuxu Heaven, Primordial Beginning explains that Meng Qi and related beings, including Jiang Nan, are experiments carrying portions of his Limitless nature. He assures Meng Qi that these experiments pose no danger and encourages the different Primordial Beginnings to help one another. Meng Qi stays to cultivate, hoping to overcome the karmic restraints delaying his entry into the Dao Fruit Contest 2496 2510.

Near the end of the third Era after the Final Tribulation, Meng Qi defeats Amitabha Buddha and Bodhi Ancient Buddha by exploiting his connection to the Boundless Chaos Sea. He claims the final Dao Fruit Position and transcends, joining Gu Xiaosang and their daughter Ling’er in a world she created 2788.

Appearance

  • Early appearance: A young, bald monk following his forced entry into monastic life 2.
  • Later clothing: Wears a dark Daoist robe while residing in the Nine Netherworlds 2103.
  • Weapons carried: Leaves the Nine Netherworlds with a sword and saber on his back 2120.

Personality

Meng Qi is cheerful, irreverent, competitive, and eager for recognition. He boasts about breakthroughs, tries to reclaim past humiliations, and repeatedly clashes with Meng Chuan’s greater authority in the Chat Group. His sharp retorts are equally prominent outside the group: companions remember him silencing hostile speakers, and he openly ridicules the Lamp-Bearing Divine Envoy despite the difference in their realms 1040 1053 1643.

Beneath the swagger, Meng Qi is fiercely protective of friends and family. He risks his own progress to protect Gu Xiaosang, seeks freedom for his companions, and welcomes Qi Zhengyan despite hostility from the righteous factions. He also personally greets elders such as Chonghe and Lu Da out of gratitude for their earlier support 312 355 356 1036.

His central conviction is that power must not erase his identity or attachments. He wants to become Meng Qi, the Primordial Heavenly Venerable, rather than merely embody a cultivation realm. Although initially resentful of being a pawn, he gradually accepts his path as a means to protect others without accepting that his loved ones are disposable illusions 812 927 931 1047.

Meng Qi can be reckless, but he is not careless. He avoids personally examining suspicious inheritances, conceals future knowledge behind plausible behavior, and withholds strategic details even from Gu Xiaosang when those details could expose their plans to Other Shore scrutiny 1643 1722 2105 2107.
