She got straight to the point, her voice steady, every word crisp and clear.
Yongye's smile did not change. He glanced at Sharon beside him. She stood by the secretary's desk, looking as though she had just swallowed a fly.
"Sharon, give us a moment."
Sharon's gaze flicked between Yongye and Diana twice. Her lips moved, but in the end she said nothing. She turned and left, closing the door behind her.
The moment the door shut, Yongye rose from his swivel chair. Hands in his pockets, he walked around the desk and stopped in front of Diana.
Less than a step separated them. He caught a faint sea breeze scent on her, mingled with the fragrance of some unfamiliar wildflower. It drifted from her hair and the side of her neck, cool and bracing.
"You're applying to join The Boys?"
Yongye tilted his head. His gaze slid from her face to her shoulders, then down to her waist. The mockery in his voice was thick enough to pour.
"Wonder Woman, Daughter of Zeus, Princess of the Amazons of Themyscira, founding member of the Justice League. You'd leave the perfectly good Justice League to work for me, a 'casting-couch enthusiast'?"
"What, are the chairs at the Justice League uncomfortable, or are you into that sort of thing too?"
Diana's lashes trembled faintly.
She held his gaze, her pale blue eyes meeting his black ones. Her voice remained steady, though the end of her sentence carried the slightest strain.
"The Justice League is too loose. The Avengers Alliance is too chaotic. The Boys has a clearer purpose, and The Seven has a more efficient structure. I want to get things done, not keep working with people who have no discipline."
