Rank 26 Soul Grandmaster 56 His documented rank when Yan Shaozhe admits him to Shrek; he possesses Twin Martial Souls 56.

Background and History

Tang San is a Divine Sense clone sent from the Divine Realm into a prepared mortal body. He awakens in a corpse with a fatal chest wound and spends part of his limited Origin Divine Sense repairing it. He considers himself more capable than the original Tang San and plans to grow strong enough to return to the Divine Realm and rescue Xiao Wu 45 46.

His first attempts to find support end in violence. He kills an Evil Soul Master who ambushes him, then kills Dou Ling soldiers who try to execute him for military merit. The repeated use of Divine Sense leaves him severely depleted. Long Xiaoyao takes him to the Holy Spirit Cult, where Tang San accepts the title of Blood Silver Saint Son while privately intending to use the cult for his own purposes 46 48.

Tang San requests permission to attend Shrek Academy. There, he fights Dai Huabin, attracting Yan Shaozhe’s attention with his Twin Martial Souls and Tang Ya’s attention with his Tang Sect techniques. He joins the Tang Sect and receives admission to Shrek’s Martial Soul Department. His wish to restore the Tang Sect is genuine, though he continues to conceal his identity and motives 48 56 57.

After sustaining severe injuries, Tang San is denied direct access to the Golden Tree’s healing energy. His resentment hardens into a plan to seize its power and gain control of Shrek. When Tang Ya visits him, he first tries to persuade her to cultivate through her Martial Soul’s devouring ability. When she hesitates, he binds her and invades her mind with Divine Sense, turning her into an obedient servant 115 116.

Appearance

In his mortal body, Tang San has an ordinary face, a slender build and short gray-blue hair. His eyes betray an arrogance that his otherwise unremarkable appearance does not 55 57.

  • His Blue Silver Grass manifests as dark-red, thorn-covered growth associated with bloodlust 48.
  • Eight dark-red spider legs can extend from his back in combat 56.

Personality

Tang San is proud of his God King origins and believes the original Tang San squandered his advantages. Setbacks provoke disproportionate anger, but he can suppress it when deception serves him: he poses as a helpless orphan, feigns loyalty to the Holy Spirit Cult and gives Shrek a false account of how he learned Tang Sect techniques 46 48 56.

His attachment to the Tang Sect coexists with a willingness to exploit its members. He wants to restore the sect, yet treats Tang Ya as a resource for his recovery and abandons persuasion as soon as she refuses to cooperate 57 116.

Abilities and Skills

Divine Sense and Asura inheritance

Tang San retains a clone’s portion of a God King’s power. He uses the Asura inheritance to repair his mortal body and can attack or invade minds with Divine Sense 46 116.

  • He kills an Evil Soul Master and several soldiers with overwhelming Divine Sense attacks 46 48.
  • He breaks Tang Ya’s resistance through a Divine Sense assault 116.
  • Early use is costly: after healing himself and forcibly awakening his Martial Souls, his Origin Divine Sense falls to less than a tenth of its initial size 46 48.

Twin Martial Souls

His Twin Martial Souls are Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer. Both carry an ominous, Asura-influenced quality that he seeks to conceal while infiltrating Shrek 45 48 49.

  • Blue Silver Grass — Uses Growth to produce thorny vines, Parasitism to regrow them from scattered fragments, and a self-created Entanglement technique to bind targets 45 56.
  • Clear Sky Hammer — Provides a heavy close-range strike; Dai Huabin’s vitality-enhanced barrier withstands a combined hammer and spider-lance attack 56.

Tang Sect techniques and Eight Spider Lances

  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — Footwork Tang San uses to advance through Dai Huabin’s attack 56.
  • Purple Demon Eye — Fires Purple Divine Light toward an opponent’s Sea of Consciousness 56.
  • Eight Spider Lances — Eight sharp appendages that emerge from his back and can strike alongside the Clear Sky Hammer 56.

Relationships

  • Tang San, the original — The clone shares his origins but criticizes his decisions and considers himself the superior Tang San 46 48.
  • Xiao Wu — Rescuing her from what he calls her suffering is part of his original plan for returning to the Divine Realm 46.
  • Huo Yuhao — A principal obstacle to his plans; the two clash over Shrek, the Lionheart Club and the Golden Tree 57 63 116 124.
  • Zhongli Wu — Names him the Holy Spirit Cult’s Blood Silver Saint Son and permits his Shrek infiltration; Tang San secretly plans to exploit the cult 48.
  • Long Xiaoyao — Overpowers the depleted clone and brings him to the Holy Spirit Cult 48.
  • Tang Ya — Recruits him into the Tang Sect, then becomes his mind-controlled servant after he targets her devouring ability 57 116.
  • Bei Bei — Tang Sect senior brother who initially questions Tang San’s knowledge of its secret techniques 56 58.
  • Yan Shaozhe — Admits him to Shrek and sees him as a possible counterweight to Huo Yuhao’s Lionheart Club 56 57.
  • Dai Huabin — Fights him at registration, then offers him a vice-leader position in the White Tiger Alliance; Tang San postpones his answer 56.
