Guardian of the Auspicious Beast

The Scarlet King guards the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, the Star Dou Great Forest’s Emperor Auspicious Beast. He explains that her presence doubles local Soul Beasts’ growth rate and their chances of overcoming hundred-thousand-year bottlenecks. Protecting her therefore safeguards the forest’s prosperity, not merely an individual creature 4 16.

Before meeting Gao Ren, he had witnessed Xuan Zi’s strength during a previous Beast Tide against Shrek City. That experience makes him wary of confronting the Taotie Douluo 15.

Discovery of the Overlord Drumsticks

The Scarlet King and the Auspicious Beast follow the lingering aroma of Gao Ren’s Overlord Drumsticks to an abandoned picnic site in the forest’s mixed zone. Recognizing Xuan Zi’s scent, the Scarlet King warns her that the discarded bones might be poisoned human bait and sends her after a passing light-attribute Soul Beast 4.

Once she leaves, he eats the bones himself. He justifies this first deception of another Soul Beast as protecting the Auspicious Beast from human leftovers, despite enjoying them immensely 4.

Confrontation with Shrek Academy

During Shrek’s later expedition, the pair again follow the drumsticks’ scent and discover a slain Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast. The Scarlet King angrily challenges the humans but avoids attacking: Xuan Zi is stronger, and the Auspicious Beast is beside him. When Xuan Zi activates his Martial Soul Avatar, the Scarlet King explicitly denies wanting a fight 14 15.

He initially rejects drumsticks as compensation for the dead beast. The Auspicious Beast’s insistence—and his memory of the delicious bones—eventually persuade him to accept the meal. Together, the two guests eat more than a thousand drumsticks, ending the confrontation peacefully 15 16.

His distrust remains intact. He blocks the Auspicious Beast from approaching Gao Ren and warns Shrek that harming her could provoke Ferocious Beast attacks or a Beast Tide against Shrek City 16.

Gao Ren’s Second Soul Ring

The Scarlet King objects when the Auspicious Beast offers Gao Ren a Soul Beast as repayment, but accompanies her to find a Purifying Water Swan. Her proposal to bring a ten-thousand-year specimen initially alarms him because Gao Ren cannot safely absorb its ring normally. She clarifies that the swan will offer itself in Sacrifice, accelerating Gao Ren’s growth and bringing him back sooner with more drumsticks 16 17.

Although he considers this aid to an enemy, he helps escort the swan back. After its sacrifice raises Gao Ren to level twenty-eight, he reluctantly agrees to meet the humans on their next visit and enjoys a serving of ten Pure World Overlord’s Legs 18.

Before the humans depart, Gao Ren produces more than fifty thousand drumsticks for the two beasts. Xuan Zi supplies a Storage Soul Tool to preserve the food 19.

Assignment as a Negotiator

Upon their return to the Great Ferocious Land, Di Tian blames the Scarlet King for allowing the Auspicious Beast to exchange gifts and arrange another meeting with a human. She intervenes, taking responsibility for her own decisions 22.

The Scarlet King then joins her in eating the drumsticks despite Di Tian’s objections to human food. By this point, only about five thousand of their original fifty thousand remain, mostly Belly-Filling Legs saved to restrain their appetites 23.

After the Pure World Overlord’s Legs show promise in treating the Silver Dragon King’s injuries, Di Tian assigns the Scarlet King to negotiate a long-term supply with Shrek Academy. Chosen because he already knows Gao Ren, he is bewildered by the assignment and wonders why the work has not gone to Bi Ji. The negotiations have not yet occurred when he receives the order 24.

He nevertheless recognizes practical limits. He avoids fighting Xuan Zi and dismisses his own temptation to kidnap Gao Ren, reasoning that starting a war with Shrek over food would be absurd 14 18.
