Background / History
Inherited family and injuries
The original Tang Hao’s wife, Ah Yin, was a Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor who had taken human form. Spirit Hall hunted the family shortly after Tang San’s birth. Badly wounded, Tang Hao survived when Ah Yin sacrificed herself to save him and their newborn son; she left behind a living stalk of Blue Silver Grass 23.
For six years, remnants of Qian Xunji’s Angel Soul Power remained embedded near Tang Hao’s heart. His meridians and internal organs were damaged, and sustained exertion aggravated the wounds. He lived as a blacksmith in Holy Soul Village, drinking heavily and withholding money despite having savings hidden in a Soul Tool 1 2 16.
Awakening and household reform
A modern consciousness awakens in Tang Hao’s body when Tang San is approximately six years old. Knowing Tang San’s future, he briefly considers killing him, but inherited paternal feelings resist the thought. He also recognizes that Tang San has not yet committed the acts he distrusts and that destroying the familiar storyline would sacrifice his greatest informational advantage 1.
He instead quits drinking, cleans and repairs the home, buys food and clothing, resumes forging work, and supports Tang San’s enrollment at Nuoding Academy. Although he detects Tang San’s hidden Clear Sky Hammer during the awakening ceremony, he does not force a confession. Before their separate departures, he urges his son to judge people fairly and retain his own judgment when choosing a teacher 1 2 3.
Journey to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well
Seeking treatment and a place where Ah Yin can recover, Tang Hao travels through Nuoding and Barak toward Heaven Dou City. He uses caravans rather than exhausting himself and secretly saves fellow traveler Ma Liu and the caravan from Riftwind Wolves. In Heaven Dou City, he rents a courtyard for Ah Yin and purchases Old Wolf’s detailed Sunset Forest map for ten Gold Soul Coins 4 5 6.
An ineffective antidote prevents him from entering Dugu Bo’s poison zone safely, so he throws a stone to summon its owner. After a brief clash, Tang Hao reveals his identity and proposes exchanging poison-treatment assistance for access to the medicinal garden. Their agreement includes restrictions on herb collection, confidentiality about Dugu Yan’s poisoning, and a requirement to stop treatment if complications arise 7 8 9.
Treatment, crisis, and recovery
Tang Hao studies Dugu Bo’s herb records rather than immediately copying a dangerous remedy he remembers only vaguely. Their first poison experiment proves that the toxin can be isolated and moved, but injures Dugu Bo’s arm. Tang Hao then transplants Ah Yin beside the well, where her vitality improves and she grows a new leaf overnight 10 11 14.
When Dugu Bo’s poison erupts and triggers Dugu Yan’s poisoning through Martial Soul resonance, Tang Hao stabilizes her and directs Dugu Bo to draw her active poison into himself. He then shields Dugu Bo’s heart and protects his meridians during an emergency treatment beside the spring. Ah Yin’s guidance reveals a better balance point, allowing limited progress for both men 15 16.
The disturbed Angel Soul Power subsequently resumes eroding Tang Hao’s meridians, leaving him little time for further study. He consumes both opposing Immortal Herbs and enters the well, using his hammer and nine rings to force the foreign power into his right arm and expel it. Most longstanding injuries clear, and the remaining damage can heal through rest 20 21.
Public return and Spirit City negotiations
After recovering, Tang Hao returns to Nuoding City and intervenes when a Spirit Hall deacon withholds Tang San’s certificate and demands an undocumented fee. He immobilizes the guards, reveals his identity, and forces Hall Master Ron to return the certificate, pay the full stipend, and refund improper charges to other children. He also warns against retaliation 22.
He tells Tang San the truth about his title, inherited Martial Soul, and mother’s sacrifice, then allows Ron’s factual report to reach Spirit City. When Bibi Dong invites him to discuss the events of six years earlier, he accepts while insisting that Spirit Hall approach him directly rather than target his son 23 24.
In Spirit City, Tang Hao hints that he knows the truth about Qian Xunji’s death and proposes a marriage-based alliance with Bibi Dong against Qian Daoliu. He admits that, having been expelled, he cannot represent the Clear Sky Sect without first speaking to Tang Xiao. Bibi Dong rejects the proposal; Tang Hao leaves asking her to reconsider 25.
Appearance
- Build: Tall, with thick arms 1 2.
- Before recovery: An ordinary-looking, pale-faced middle-aged man whose weak breathing makes him appear seriously ill 7 8.
- Early transformation: Bathes, cleans himself up, and buys new clothing, surprising Old Jack enough that he initially fails to recognize him 2.
- Travel clothing: Purchases a black cloak and uses it while keeping his identity concealed 4 5.
Personality
Tang Hao is pragmatic about both power and survival. He prefers negotiation or payment to unnecessary fighting, checks routes before entering dangerous territory, and acknowledges that knowing the storyline does not provide medical expertise or precise control over inherited strength. His caution has limits: when the Angel Soul Power threatens his life, he accepts the hazardous treatment he had previously delayed 4 5 9 20 21.
He is blunt, irreverent, and frequently insulting, using jokes to conceal rescues, pressure merchants, and provoke powerful opponents. His outward abrasiveness coexists with concrete care: he provides for Tang San, protects ordinary travelers, risks worsening his injuries to save Dugu Bo, and is tender toward Ah Yin. He increasingly replaces secrecy with honest communication while refusing to make his son dependent on him 3 5 11 16 23 25.
Abilities & Skills
Clear Sky Hammer
His inherited tool Martial Soul is a massive, pitch-black hammer covered in patterns 1 8.
- Revealing the hammer and red ninth ring allows Dugu Bo and Spirit Hall officials to identify him as Clear Sky Douluo 8 22.
- Drives the hammer into the ground to channel Soul Power through the rock and briefly stabilize the well’s opposing forces 16.
- Uses it during treatment to destroy the expelled golden manifestation of Angel Soul Power 21.
- Retains the original Tang Hao’s memories of hammer techniques and Ring Detonation, although these chapters do not document a separate use of Ring Detonation 21.
Soul Power Manipulation
His level-95 reserves support overwhelming pressure, bodily protection, and increasingly precise intervention in other people’s meridians 1 10 24.
- Stops Dugu Bo’s attacking wrist despite already being severely injured 8.
- Seals dangerous meridian pathways and shields Dugu Bo’s heart and arm during poison treatment 14 16.
- Suppresses Dugu Yan’s spreading poison and forces poison mist back with his manifested power 15.
- Immobilizes Spirit Hall guards without requiring a hammer strike 22.
- Initially lacks his predecessor’s fine control; prolonged exertion can trigger bleeding and worsen his internal injuries before recovery 4 7 10.
Spiritual Perception
Tang Hao uses spiritual and mental power to observe concealed activity and navigate threats 2 7 16.
- Watches Tang San’s awakening from outside and detects his concealed second Martial Soul 2.

- Tracks poison inside Dugu Bo’s right arm during the emergency treatment 16.
Treatment Knowledge
He combines knowledge of the original story with practical experimentation, relying on Dugu Bo for detailed botanical expertise 9 10.
- Identifies Dugu Bo’s recurring poisoning symptoms before examining him 8.
- Proposes storing accumulated poison in a Soul Bone rather than stripping Dugu Bo of his poison abilities 8 9.
- Rejects premature use of Dugu Bo’s head Soul Bone because uncontrolled poison could damage his brain 10 14 16.
- Tests the springwater on porcelain and metal before risking direct exposure 12.
- Does not initially know the proper dose, maturity, or complete handling procedure for the two Immortal Herbs 10 12.
