Background and History
Bei Mingyuan arrived in the Douluo world around 250,000 years ago as a Kunpeng hatchling. His Evolution System made him stronger while he remained in water or rode the wind. As he grew and drifted through the sea, mountains, rivers, forests, and eventually a complete ecosystem formed on his back. He also took Peng form to fly over the mainland and rescue humans and Soul Beasts 1.
When conflict spread among the societies living on him, Bei Mingyuan created a human avatar, subdued their factions with his Divine-Level Kunpeng Martial Soul, and founded the Northern Underworld Empire. He then withdrew from direct rule, leaving his descendants to govern while he guided the empire through occasional oracles. His deliberate efforts helped humans and Soul Beasts coexist and share knowledge brought from other continents 1.
He later established a cycle that preserves Soul Rings left by the dead and sends their souls through memory erasure and reincarnation. A barrier around him also shields the continent from the Divine Realm’s scrutiny; surviving True Dragons settled there after the Dragon God’s fall 8.
Before Poseidon became a god, he attempted to seize the Northern Underworld Continent while seeking more followers. Bei Mingyuan defeated him with the Kunpeng Martial Soul and warned him not to return 12 15.
Appearance
Bei Mingyuan’s true body is so vast that the Northern Underworld Continent rests on his back. He usually travels beneath the sea in Kun form, though he can transform into Peng 1 2.
- His head and tail cannot be seen at once from the deep-sea viewpoint described when he awakens 2.
- His deep-blue eyes illuminate the surrounding water when they open 2.
- Mountains, plains, rivers, lakes, forests, and settlements occupy his back 2.
Personality
Bei Mingyuan prefers peace among the people living on him, but he enjoys spectacle and admits that boredom drives some of his interference in Douluo’s affairs. His conversations with his avatars are often argumentative and familiar 1 2 24.
His confidence in his God King strength has limits. He dismisses the threat posed by Douluo’s gods, yet remains wary of powerful beings from the Primordial World and of the Sky Screen, which his divine sense cannot penetrate. Rather than challenge the screen immediately, he first orders the empire to observe it, then permits engagement as a way to investigate it 2 4 6 12.
Abilities and Skills
Kunpeng Form and Movement
- In Kun form, his body carries the Northern Underworld Continent across the sea; he can also assume the giant-bird Peng form 1.
- His tail can drive enormous waves and accelerate him through the ocean. He must control his movements to avoid endangering the inhabitants on his back 2 17.
Laws and Devouring Power
- His system lists the Space, Water, and Wind Laws, though he has only begun to comprehend them 2.
- Kunpeng’s devouring power can fuse what he devours and convert it into energy. His avatar Bei Miao uses this ability to combine Ten-Year Soul Rings into a Thousand-Year Soul Ring 23.
Divine Sense and Protection
- He can survey Douluo Star with his divine sense and crushed a divine gaze that attempted to spy on him 2 12.
- The barrier around him blocks the Divine Realm’s scrutiny, providing refuge for the continent’s dragon Soul Beasts 8.
Avatars and Martial Soul
- He created seven avatars from facets of his personality so they could travel without risking the continent carried by his true body. Five named avatars are Xin Nan, Dong Shan, Bei Miao, Kun Zhong, and Xi Zhao 17.
- His human avatar used the Divine-Level Kunpeng Martial Soul to unite the continent. In an earlier battle, its Peng form outpaced and defeated Poseidon before his ascension 1 12.
Underworld Cycle
- Devices he created preserve Soul Rings left by Soul Masters and Soul Beasts with sufficient cultivation for future recipients 8.
- He sends the dead into a special space where their memories are erased before they are reincarnated as either humans or Soul Beasts 8.
Equipment and Creations
- Northern Underworld Pearl — innate super divine artifact listed by his system 2.
- Demon Master Sword — super divine artifact listed on his status panel 2.
- Battle Armor and modified weapons — he developed armor for his avatars and altered their weapons for easier use. The empire cannot reproduce the four-word Battle Armor possessed by his five armor-wielding avatars 17 20.
Relationships
- Bei Mingxue — his descendant and the empire’s empress. She can hear his oracles clearly and follows his instructions 1 4 18.
- Bei Miao — his avatar, sent to handle Sea God Island. They bicker, but Bei Mingyuan directs his actions 17 18 24.
- Poseidon — attempted to conquer the Northern Underworld Continent before becoming a god and was defeated by Bei Mingyuan 12 15.
Story Role
- The Sky Screen’s arrival: Bei Mingyuan awakens as a God King, discovers that he cannot see through the mysterious screen, and initially orders the empire to watch it. He later authorizes participation to probe its capabilities 2 4 6.
- Approach to Douluo: While carrying the continent toward Douluo, he repels a divine observer. The movement of his enormous body prompts fears of a collision, although he says he does not intend to destroy Sea God Island 12 13 17.
- Sea God Island campaign: He deploys Bei Miao, instructs him to capture the Demon Soul Great White Sharks rather than kill them, and continues directing the campaign as the fleet approaches the island 17 18 24.
