History

Bei Mingyuan founded the empire after conflict between Soul Masters, Soul Beasts, and other factions spread across the continent on his back. Taking human form, he united them by force, then withdrew from direct rule. His descendants became the empire’s sovereigns, while he continued to guide it through occasional oracles 1.

Contact with other continents brought Soul Tool-making knowledge to the Northern Underworld. The empire developed that technology over tens of thousands of years; by the time the Sky Screen connects it with Douluo, the two continents have had little recent contact 1 4.

The continent has also sheltered surviving True Dragons. A barrier around Bei Mingyuan blocks scrutiny from the Divine Realm, allowing dragon clans to rebuild after the Dragon God’s fall 8.

Territory and Society

• Living continent: Mountains, cities, forests, and waterways stand on Bei Mingyuan’s enormous back. He can carry the continent through the sea 1 2 11.
• Capital: North Nether City stands suspended above a central mountain, at the junction of routes across the continent 23.
• Regions: A glacier lies to the north, a Soul Beast-rich forest to the east, mineral-bearing mountains to the west, and a volcanic habitat for fire-type Soul Beasts to the south. Bei Mingyuan deliberately shaped these environments 23.
• Human–Soul Beast coexistence: Humans and Soul Beasts serve in the empire together; some have married and formed families 1 8.
• Cycle of rebirth: A system devised by Bei Mingyuan stores qualifying Soul Rings after death and sends souls to a separate space. Their memories are erased before they are reincarnated as humans or Soul Beasts 8.

Government and Notable Figures

• Bei Mingxue — empress and a Level 99 Limit Douluo. Her Kunpeng Martial Soul lets her hear Bei Mingyuan’s oracles clearly 1.
• Di Huaiying — chancellor who speaks for the empire in the Sky Screen discussion and states that its weapons are intended for defense 8 10.
• Long Wei — general who leads the vanguard sent toward Sea God Island 17.
• Qiu Beiling — dean of a Soul Tool academy and a public defender of the empire’s technology 4 9.
• Bei Miao — one of the empire’s Five Elders and an avatar of Bei Mingyuan, deployed with Long Wei’s fleet 17 18 19.

Soul Tools and Military

• Civilian uses: Soul Tools serve agriculture, transport, and medicine as well as the military 9.
• Ninth-generation Energy-Gathering Cannon: After testing, an initial batch of 100 is issued to the armies. Qiu Beiling says three Soul Emperors can charge one briefly to deliver a strike comparable to a Level 90 Titled Douluo’s full-power attack 5 9.
• Level 9 cannons: Long Wei claims the empire has 330 in service. Qiu Beiling describes a Level 9 Fixed Soul Guidance Cannon as capable of devastating land for dozens of kilometers around 9 10.
• Battle Armor: Bei Mingyuan helped develop multiple grades of Battle Armor. The empire cannot reproduce his technology for armor beyond four-word Battle Armor; five of his avatars possess such sets 17.
• Level 10 cannons: Qiu Beiling claims these can slay gods 9.

Contact with Douluo and Sea God Island

• Sky Screen contact: The empire initially stays silent on Bei Mingyuan’s orders while its leaders assess the unexplained screen. He later authorizes them to participate, and Bei Mingxue publicly identifies herself as its ruler 4 6.
• Policy toward visitors: Bei Mingxue welcomes those who come to exchange knowledge peacefully but promises retaliation against attackers 8.
• Grievance against Poseidon: Imperial accounts say Poseidon tried to seize the continent 20,000 years earlier and was driven off by Bei Mingyuan 12 15.
• Approach to Sea God Island: As the continent moves toward Douluo, Bei Mingxue assigns Long Wei to take the island. Bei Miao joins the fleet and defeats the Demon Soul Great White Sharks guarding its waters; Xiao Bai then leads her tribe away under the terms of their wager 11 17 20 21 23.
