Background / History
Forest Life and Dorm Seven
Xiao Wu lived in the Star Dou Great Forest before entering human society. She became Da Ming and Er Ming’s big sister and later chose the path of a Power Attack System Soul Master 2 16.
At Nuoding Academy, she leads Dorm Seven’s work-study students. Their custom requires newcomers to fight the dormitory boss, so she eagerly challenges Jin Yang when they meet. He surrenders rather than contest her position 1.
Conflict with Jin Yang
Although initially curious about Jin Yang’s edible sunlight, Xiao Wu becomes frightened by his Sunflower Martial Soul. She challenges him to spar without releasing it, but he refuses and frightens her into retreating with the plant 1 2.
When Jin Yang announces that he is transferring, she appeals to Dorm Seven’s identity as a family. He rejects the appeal because he feels excluded from that family. She subsequently identifies him to Yu Xiaogang as the person who injured Tang San and watches the ensuing confrontation with growing anxiety 3 4.
Xiao Wu later apologizes to Jin Yang. He says he will accept an apology for her own conduct, but not one made on Tang San’s behalf 5.
Estrangement from Tang San
After Yu Xiaogang abandons Tang San, Xiao Wu notices Tang San’s emotional withdrawal. Her attempt to comfort him after he cries is met with an angry demand to stop meddling, leaving her confused and hurt 5 7.
She nevertheless tries to shield him from Jin Yang and helps him reach the infirmary after another defeat. Feeling that Tang San continues to distance himself, she stops waiting for him and following him after class. Tang San misinterprets this as rejection caused by his loss 13 14 15.
Tang Hao’s delivery of relationship-advice books and accessories embarrasses Xiao Wu, who suspects the books concern her. She insists that she and Tang San sleep in separate beds. Meanwhile, she agrees to spar with Jin Yang 16.
Graduation and Academy Choice
During the following six years, Xiao Wu and Tang San reconcile. She also becomes a recurring sparring partner for Jin Yang, contributing to his improved combat skills 17.
After graduation, she persuades Tang San to choose Heaven Dou Royal Academy instead of Spirit Hall Academy. She fears encountering Spirit Hall’s powerful experts in Spirit City and being turned into someone else’s Soul Ring and Soul Bone. Tang San respects her preference without knowing its underlying reason 18.
Personality
Xiao Wu is lively, curious, and eager to fight. She openly asserts her authority as Dorm Seven’s boss and repeatedly seeks matches with Jin Yang. Her confidence falters around his unsettling Sunflower, even though she knows it is a Martial Soul rather than a direct threat to her 1 2 16.
She is protective of Tang San, confronting his rival and tending to him after injuries. However, his unexplained coldness hurts her, and she eventually sets boundaries rather than continuing to follow him. The narration explicitly characterizes her as innocent, not stupid, when she recognizes the implications of Tang Hao’s relationship books 13 15 16.
Abilities & Skills
Close-Combat Fighting
Xiao Wu follows the Power Attack System and possesses fighting skills that Jin Yang considers no worse than Tang San’s 16.
- Eight-Stage Throw: She is described as ready to use this technique when challenging Jin Yang at their first meeting; its execution is not shown in that encounter 1.
- Sparring: Her repeated fights with Jin Yang help him develop his combat technique over six years 17.
Soul Beast Instincts
Her instincts as a Soul Beast alert her that Jin Yang has changed before his renewed fight with Tang San, making her fear that Tang San will lose 14.
- Her hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast identity makes her a potential source of a valuable Soul Ring and Soul Bone 15 18.
- The danger of encountering Spirit Hall’s Titled Douluo directly influences her choice of academy 18.
Relationships
- Tang San — Close companion and former bedmate. She protects and cares for him through his defeats, but his emotional withdrawal temporarily strains their bond. They reconcile during their years at Nuoding and choose their next academy together 5 13 15 16 17 18.
- Jin Yang — Fellow student and eventual sparring partner. Their early relationship is marked by her fear of his Martial Soul and loyalty to Tang San; later, she regards him reasonably favorably and willingly trains with him 2 4 15 16 17.
- Tang Hao — Secretly intends to make her willingly sacrifice herself for Tang San, as Ah Yin did. His attempts to keep the pair close are motivated by the hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring and possible Soul Bone she could provide 5 15.
- Da Ming and Er Ming — Xiao Wu is their big sister 16.
- Wang Sheng — Fellow Dorm Seven student who recognizes her as the dormitory boss 1.
