Ch. 21Heading to the Spirit Ascension Platform
Key plot points and events
- Tang Sect enforcers detain Li Qingxun over a report that he badly injured Wang Jinxi, Zhang Yangzi, and Wei Xiaofeng. Li insists the accusation is misleading and calls his teacher, Wu Changkong.
- Wu arrives, proves his Tang Sect membership, and explains what happened. The enforcement captain realizes the report was false, apologizes, and promises to investigate and punish whoever filed it. Wu also assures Li that the Tang Sect will not continue to harass or surveil him.
- Wu reminds Li that Class Zero has its weekly visit to the Spirit Ascension Platform, and tells him to meet the others. Li joins Tang Wulin, Gu Yuena, and Xie Xie, and they set off by Soul Guidance Bus.
- Privately, Li is angered that the three students he spared have retaliated by reporting him. He considers using the Spirit Pagoda’s records—or the academy’s files—to locate their families.
Character developments and interactions
- Li Qingxun stays outwardly calm during the detention and uses Wu’s Tang Sect standing to resolve the situation. Beneath that composure, he becomes more determined to retaliate and considers exploiting institutional databases to track down his accusers.
- Wu Changkong supports Li, clarifies the incident to the enforcers, and uses his authority to protect him. He is briefly embarrassed to identify himself by his nickname, “Eastsea Little Changkong.”
- The Tang Sect captain shifts from suspicion to respect once Wu’s identity is confirmed, then recognizes the team was misled and promises an investigation.
- Li and Wu have a trusting, practical relationship: Li calls for help, and Wu quickly intervenes. The confrontation also contrasts Li’s calm presentation with his simmering resentment.
Significant themes
- Institutional loyalty and influence: The enforcers readily trust Wu once they confirm he belongs to the Tang Sect, prompting Li to consider the advantages of having allies inside powerful organizations.
- False accusations and accountability: The chapter highlights the danger of a misleading report, while the captain promises consequences if it is proven false.
- Restraint versus revenge: Li presents himself as composed, but his thoughts show that he views the students’ retaliation as unforgivable and is already considering how to find them.
