Background / History

The Dugu Family’s Poison Burden

Dugu Bo’s Martial Soul supplied his poison arts but also threatened his life. Before reaching Titled Douluo, poison produced through cultivation accumulated uncontrollably in his body. Discovering the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well allowed him to suppress that poison long enough to advance. His subsequent Poison Core contained newly cultivated poison, but did not remove the damage accumulated beforehand 29.

Dugu Yan inherited the same dangerous cultivation path. Dugu Bo maintained an Immortal Herb garden at the well, but initially did not understand the herbs’ ability to improve talent and evolve Martial Souls 28 29.

Heaven Dou Palace Incident

Dugu Bo entered the standoff following Lin Hao and Qian Renxue’s destructive palace duel. Finding Sea Horse, Snake Lance, and Porcupinefish Douluo already facing one another, he immediately felt outmatched by the gathering. When three Soul Bones were exposed in the ruined Treasury, he joined the scramble and seized a ten-thousand-year Purple Lightning Leopard right-leg bone 26 27.

Although he was Xue Xing’s honored guest, Dugu Bo refused to return the imperial treasure. He intended to give it to Dugu Yan for protection and faster cultivation. The appearance of several previously concealed Titled Douluo also prompted him to urge caution and a low profile for his granddaughter 27.

Treatment and Allegiance to Lin Hao

When Lin Hao entered Dugu Manor uninvited, Dugu Bo attacked with Jade Phosphorous Serpent Poison. Lin Hao neutralized it and offered to cure both grandfather and granddaughter. Dugu Bo remained suspicious until the Sea God Imprint revealed a divine aura resembling the presence he had once sensed from the Angel God Statue in Spirit Hall 28.

Dugu Bo agreed to surrender his herb garden in exchange for treatment. Of Lin Hao’s four proposed remedies, he chose Soul Core formation so that he could retain his poison arts. For Dugu Yan, he instead requested purification and Martial Soul mutation, hoping to end the family’s harmful inheritance 28 29.

After being cured and reaching rank 92, Dugu Bo pledged to obey Lin Hao’s orders. His gratitude was genuine, but the alliance was also a calculated investment in protection for himself and Dugu Yan. He later witnessed her Martial Soul evolve into the Earth Rockscale Dragon and embraced her with tears in his eyes 30 31.

Service to the Sea God Empire

Dugu Bo accompanied Lin Hao to the Ye Family, explained the Nine Heart Begonia lineage, and helped establish contact with Ye Xinglan. When Lin Hao departed Heaven Dou City, he entrusted Dugu Bo with completing the remaining arrangements with the family 31 32.

He later joined the Sea God Empire’s expedition against the Clear Sky Sect. At rank 95, he overwhelmed the third elder with poisonous mist and Jade Phosphorous Divine Light. The elder’s accusation that he had become the empire’s “running dog” provoked his old, murderous temper 67 68.

Alongside Ye Xinglan and Yang Wudi, Dugu Bo spent forty-nine days refining a genuine Universe Creation Pill using Lin Hao’s notes. The resulting batch contained five pills and consumed almost all the well’s Immortal Herbs, a yield he initially considered painfully small. Lin Hao rewarded the three alchemists with one pill to dissolve in water and share; no subsequent rank increase is specified 80 81.

Defense of Sea God Island

Watching Bo Saixi fight the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King shook Dugu Bo’s understanding of the gap between Super and Limit Douluo. Lin Hao reassured him that those particular combatants were exceptional even within their ranks 82.

Despite his fear, Dugu Bo joined the defense against the Demon Empress and unleashed his strongest attacks. She shattered them with a black-purple pillar of light and nearly killed him. Lin Hao’s Unfixed Storm briefly halted the counterattack, allowing Dugu Bo to escape 83.

Personality

Dugu Bo is opportunistic, suspicious, and practical. He keeps a Soul Bone taken from the imperial Treasury despite his ties to Xue Xing, distrusts Lin Hao’s unexplained arrival, and weighs the protective value of serving a divine successor. His caution increases when unfamiliar powerful fighters appear in Heaven Dou City 27 28 30.

His granddaughter receives a tenderness rarely shown to others. He sacrifices his herb garden for her treatment and becomes visibly emotional when her transformation succeeds. He also insists on repaying life-saving kindness. Life under the Sea God Empire and frequent medical discussions with Ye Xinglan soften his temperament, but insults can still provoke lethal anger 28 30 31 68.
