Appearance
- Full size: Stands ten meters tall when Huang first encounters it 85.
- Crown: Its head crown’s size and color help Huang determine that it has not yet reached one hundred thousand years 85.
- Natural weapons: Possesses sharp talons and a beak capable of piercing and repeatedly injuring the Azure-Winged Snake 88.
- Reduced form: Can shrink to the size of an ordinary falcon and perch on Huang’s shoulder 86.
Personality
The falcon is proud, quick-tempered, and sensitive to disrespect. It initially dismisses Huang as an insignificant human, then becomes furious when his attacks hurt it. After receiving the name Eagle Skystrike, it demands that others use the name and attacks a Holy Spirit Cult protector who happens to share it 85 97.
Its bravado does not eliminate its fear. Mo Daolin’s pressure makes its wings cramp, and it privately admits that the human Eagle Skystrike is far stronger than its earlier taunts suggested. It nevertheless enjoys performing for an audience, joking and screaming during high-speed combat to make itself memorable 94 98.
Following purification, the falcon thanks Huang and becomes an enthusiastic companion, though their bond remains coercive. It is also lonely: after the other powerful beasts around Central Lake die, it complains of boredom and repeatedly asks Huang to help it find a mate 86 92 109 113.
Abilities & Skills
Wind Manipulation
- Wind blades: Produces crescent-shaped blades with its wings. After its advancement, a single large blade slices through the Short-Tailed Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey, Stone-Skinned Elephant, and Tortoiseshell Wild Boar 85 87.
- Astral Gale: Shreds the three beasts’ corpses and surrounds its body during a charge against the human Eagle Skystrike 87 97.
- Controlled gusts: Knocks Heaven Dou City’s defenders down without killing them before delivering Huang’s message 92.
- Area attacks: Sweeps through screaming, black-fume-emitting Soul Beasts with blade-like winds 91.
Spatial Abilities
- Teleportation: Can abruptly shift sideways, using the movement both to evade Huang and to strike the Bone Eagle Martial Soul from an unexpected angle 85 97.
- Combined technique: States that combining its spatial ability with wind techniques can shatter space 97.
- Limit: Explicitly distinguishes its teleportation from the ability to “leap through space” 97.
Flight and Aerial Combat
- Transport: Carries Huang and several other passengers, including injured Spirit Hall elders 94 95.
- Aerial awareness: Detects a concealed Soul Master several hundred meters above the traveling group 97.
- Physical attacks: Uses talons to seize the Azure-Winged Snake at a vital point and wings to scatter portions of the Bone Eagle Martial Soul 88 97.
- Mounted coordination: Provides the mobility for Huang’s hammer and Soul Skill attacks against the human Eagle Skystrike 98 100.
- Limits: Its reactions are slower while grounded. During Huang’s accelerated mounted maneuvers, it becomes dizzy and initially gives away their approach by screaming 85 98.
Size Alteration
- Changes rapidly between an ordinary falcon’s size and its enormous combat form 86 87.
- Uses its small form to perch on Huang’s shoulder or rest in Xiong An’an’s arms 86 102.
Contract Bond
The contract is established through an oath and the joining of the falcon’s origin blood essence with Huang’s 85.
- Mental communication: Huang sends commands directly and can locate the falcon through their link 91 104.
- Shared information: The bond lets Huang understand the falcon’s abilities 86.
- Soul Power access: Huang can draw on the falcon’s Soul Power during battle 98.
- Enforced obedience: Huang can cause it pain with a thought 85.
- Unequal survival condition: Huang states that his death would kill the falcon, but its death would not kill him 99.
- Contracting difficulty: Huang warns that binding a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast requires exceptional mental strength 102.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Capture and Purification
- Forced submission: Huang attempts to mount the falcon while it drinks at Central Lake. After it dodges and drenches him, he overwhelms it with successive attacks and pins it beneath Tathagata Palm. Threatened with death, it reluctantly swears loyalty 85.
- Removal of corruption: Huang discovers that Demonic Qi has invaded its flesh and brain. His sacred power purges the corruption, restoring its clarity of mind 86.
- Tribulation: The falcon deliberately faces lightning over Central Lake to cleanse the water. The strikes temporarily destroy some Demonic Qi, but the corruption replenishes afterward 86.
- Scouting: Following its tribulation, it notices the forest’s diminished Soul Beast population and brings Dugu Bo to Huang, helping confirm the aftermath of the Beast Tide 86.
Central Lake Containment
- Kills the monkey, elephant, and wild boar involved in organizing the Beast Tide and spreading Demonic Qi into Heaven Dou City 86 87.
- Attacks its old rival, the Azure-Winged Snake, when the Demonic Qi face summons it. The falcon eventually kills the snake, whose Soul Ring is offered to Dugu Bo 88.
- Eliminates black-fume-emitting Soul Beasts and carries Huang’s corresponding execution order to Spirit Hall’s Heaven Dou City branch 91 92.
- Carries the exhausted Huang away after Qian Daoliu orders him to withdraw the Angel Holy Sword from the lake 93.
The Two Eagle Skystrikes
- Receives its chosen human-world name during the journey from Sunset Forest. Its delighted shriek disrupts the injured elders’ Soul Power absorption, making them cough blood 97.
- Takes offense when a Holy Spirit Cult protector introduces himself as Eagle Skystrike. After depositing the injured passengers with Dugu Bo, it attacks and repeatedly damages his skeletal eagle Martial Soul 97.
- Fights alongside Huang through rapid aerial maneuvers, while admitting that the opponent’s strength is comparable to a four-hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast 98.
- Carries Huang back into the confrontation after the enemy attacks the weakened travelers. Following the human Eagle Skystrike’s death, it transports the group to Spirit City 100 101.
Life in Spirit City and Later Travels
- Proudly introduces itself as Huang’s personal mount and readily accepts Xiong An’an’s affection 102.
- Spreads stories that damage Qian Daoliu’s reputation. Huang is punished for failing to control its speech and orders it to return and remain quiet 104 108 109.
- Accompanies Huang, Qian Daoliu, and Ling Yuan to the Star Dou Great Forest, hoping to find a bird Soul Beast mate 109 110.
- Carries the group and the captured Ah Rou during their return journey. Huang later promises another mate-searching trip after the Pope’s wedding 112 113.
- Is pulled from the sky by Ah Yin’s Blue Silver Grass when Tang Hao demands ownership of it. Huang’s display of nine Soul Rings forces the challengers to back down, and the falcon departs with him 114.
Relationships
- Huang Tieyi — Master and contract holder. Their relationship develops from forced submission into active companionship, but Huang retains control over the falcon’s pain, Soul Power, and survival 85 86 98 99.
- Azure-Winged Snake — Old rival. The falcon drags it from Central Lake and kills it during Huang’s confrontation with the Demonic Qi face 88.
- Eagle Skystrike, Holy Spirit Cult protector — Enemy and namesake. The shared name provokes the falcon’s initial attack; it subsequently fights him alongside Huang 97 98.
- Dugu Bo — Carries him to Central Lake, supplies the snake whose Soul Ring he absorbs, and later entrusts injured passengers to him 86 88 97.
- Qian Daoliu — Passenger whom the falcon praises as the “Great Enshrined,” despite later spreading stories that harm his reputation 98 104 108.
- Ling Yuan Douluo — Frequent passenger and verbal sparring partner. The falcon threatens to throw her off after she compares it to her much weaker pet myna 97.
- Xiong An’an — Welcomes the falcon affectionately; it flies into her arms when Huang permits it to stay with her 102.
