Background / History

Kaguya and Isshiki harvested Chakra Fruits on other planets before arriving on Earth. They found an existing God Tree bearing a ripe fruit whose quality surpassed every fruit they had previously encountered. Unwilling to accept her assigned fate as a sacrifice or surrender the fruit, Kaguya prepared a trap, caught Isshiki off guard, and killed him in a surprise attack 193.

She consumed the fruit herself, gaining immortality and becoming inseparable from the Ten-Tails. Known afterward as the Rabbit Goddess, she became the legendary source of chakra in the Shinobi World 129 179 193.

Her sons, Hagoromo and Hamura, inherited portions of her chakra. They fought her for three months without defeating her outright and ultimately resorted to sealing her. Her chakra was later divided into the Nine Tailed Beasts, leaving even her eventual revived form short of her original power 186 200.

Appearance

  • Hair and horns: Long blue-white hair and two horns rising from her head 178.
  • Eyes: Byakugan in both eyes and a scarlet Rinne Sharingan at the center of her forehead 178.
  • Clothing: White robes patterned with black tomoe 178.
  • Human disguise: Can shorten her hair, retract her horns, turn her eyes black, and close her forehead eye until she appears entirely human 189.
  • Combat transformation: Can assume the enormous Ten-Tails form and cover it in dark-blue Susanoo armor 183 186.

Personality

Kaguya considers the chakra inherited by her descendants to remain her property. On meeting Neji, Sasuke, and Naruto, she accuses them of stealing her power; she later demands that Sasuke return it. She likewise regards Earth as her “nursery,” valuing its capacity to produce another Chakra Fruit 178 180 193.

Initially impassive, she becomes cautious after reviewing Black Zetsu’s intelligence. She accepts his advice to separate her opponents, but after absorbing Madara’s experience she asserts greater independence and orders Zetsu not to interfere with her plans 178 180 186.

Her ambition outweighs both loyalty and caution. She betrays Isshiki for Earth’s fruit, attempts to rewrite history to eliminate her enemies, and later plans to devour her parallel-world counterpart. Nevertheless, she is willing to flee and conceal herself when direct combat becomes unfavorable 187 189 193 199.

Abilities & Skills

Byakugan

Her Byakugan’s perception surpasses that of an ordinary Tenseigan and can examine the spiritual nature of another being’s power 179.

  • Recognizes the inherited powers of Hagoromo, Hamura, Indra, and Asura in her opponents 178.
  • Sees the Ten-Tails within Neji and Sasuke and identifies their near-perfect correspondence with their hosts’ souls 179.
  • Tracks attacks regardless of their angle, allowing her to counter Sasuke’s complete Susanoo 179.

Rinne Sharingan and Space-Time Techniques

Her forehead eye supports Kekkei Mōra abilities that transport combatants between worlds and open passages across space-time 180 187.

  • Amenominaka: Replaces the surrounding world with one of her dimensions, transporting opponents with her 180 199.
  • Yomotsu Hirasaka: Opens black portals for movement, surprise attacks, abduction, and retreat 180 183 187.
  • Dimensional environments: Her worlds include snow, desert, lava, sulfuric acid, and extreme gravity 180 182 183.
  • Limits: Her dimensions can be damaged or destroyed by sufficiently powerful clashes. The Gravity World also restricts her own movement 181 182 184.
  • Pursuit advantage: Her space-time mastery initially exceeds that of Neji, Sasuke, and Naruto, allowing her to escape beyond their immediate reach 187.

Eighty Gods Vacuum Attack

A Kekkei Mōra taijutsu technique that releases countless densely compressed chakra fists, combining offense and defense 179.

  • Shatters Sasuke’s complete Susanoo and launches him hundreds of meters away 179.
  • Protects her when Amenotejikara places her directly in Neji’s Divine Vacuum Strike 179.
  • Destroys Neji’s Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion after she absorbs Madara 183.
  • Can devastate terrain for dozens of kilometers and contribute to clashes that rupture space itself 180 181.
  • Fails to injure Neji while his state-locking dōjutsu, Amenotokotachi, is active 186 187.

Shinra Tensei

Uses repulsive force through her Rinne Sharingan to repel opponents and create a defensive barrier 179 180.

  • Stops Neji’s tornado attack around her 179.
  • Blasts Sasuke backward when she enters the Desert World 180.
  • Her barrier begins cracking under Neji and Naruto’s combined assault 179.

Environmental Manipulation and All-Killing Ash Bones

Her integrated Kekkei Mōra power lets her merge with nature and turn the battlefield against her enemies 184 186.

  • Raises enormous stone spikes beneath Sasuke’s Takemikazuchi 181.
  • Animates sand into spikes to attack Naruto inside a crater 184.
  • Sends terrain-generated projectiles toward Neji, although Kamui allows them to pass through him 186.
  • Uses All-Killing Ash Bones to pierce Sasuke’s condensed Takemikazuchi armor; his Izanagi negates the unfavorable outcome 199.

Immortality and Regeneration

Earth’s Chakra Fruit grants Kaguya true immortality. Her continued existence does not depend on remaining joined to the Ten-Tails, despite their complete fusion 193.

  • Rapidly repairs wounds, damaged clothing, broken horns, and severe bodily trauma 180 186 189.
  • Survives dismemberment and a Six Paths-enhanced Futsunomitama strike through her head 187.
  • Can replenish her chakra through the population trapped in Infinite Tsukuyomi until that technique is undone 187.
  • Limits: Prolonged fighting reduces her reserves, and Futsunomitama’s mind- and soul-destroying power deals genuine damage. Ultimately, Neji and Sasuke subdue and devour her 182 187 199 200.

Madara’s Absorbed Abilities

Absorbing Madara gives her his combat experience and techniques, correcting her earlier reliance on overwhelming chakra alone 182 183.

  • Converts Ten-Tails Six Paths chakra into enhanced physical strength by mimicking the Five-Tails’ chakra properties 183.
  • Uses Limbo: Border Jail to produce four invisible shadows 183 185.
  • Combines Susanoo armor with her Ten-Tails form and those shadows 183.
  • Conceals her true speed and feigns weakness before counterattacking Naruto 184.
  • Limits: Limbo Shadows cannot use her Rinne Sharingan’s special abilities. They must return to her after a time, placing the technique on cooldown 183 186.

Disguise and Chakra Concealment

Her Ōtsutsuki abilities let her conceal her chakra perfectly and alter her visible features 189.

  • Blends into a Shinobi World city while her pursuers search her dimensions 189.
  • Believes this concealment can defeat Neji’s planetary-scale sensing 189.

Relationships

  • Hagoromo Otsutsuki — Eldest son and the Sage of Six Paths. Inherited part of her chakra and participated in sealing her; she later expresses hatred toward him 179 186 189 200.
  • Hamura Otsutsuki — Second son, who fought and sealed her alongside Hagoromo. She recognizes Neji as his descendant 178 179 186.
  • Black Zetsu — Youngest son and manifestation of her consciousness. Engineers her resurrection, supplies intelligence, and advises her during battle. Sasuke destroys him before her escape 178 180 187 189.
  • Isshiki Otsutsuki — Former Chakra Fruit-harvesting partner. She rejects her sacrificial role, ambushes him, and takes Earth’s fruit for herself 193.
  • Madara Uchiha — Unwitting resurrection vessel. She subsequently absorbs his soul, gaining his techniques and experience 178 182 183.
  • Neji Hyuga — Enemy and Hamura’s descendant. She identifies him as the strongest of the three opposing jinchūriki; he eventually helps devour her 178 200.
  • Sasuke Uchiha — Enemy she identifies with Indra. His Amenotejikara repeatedly exposes her to coordinated attacks, and he shares in her final consumption 180 187 199 200.
  • Naruto Uzumaki — Enemy she identifies with Asura. She isolates him in another dimension, but his Six Paths-enhanced Kamui enables him to escape and continue fighting 180 182 184.
  • Parallel-world Kaguya — Alternate self whom she attempts to devour to acquire the power of a second Earth-grown Chakra Fruit 198 199.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Resurrection and Dimensional Battle

  • Black Zetsu betrays Madara during his collection of Infinite Tsukuyomi chakra, transforming his body into the resurrected Kaguya 178.

  • Her duel with Sasuke shatters half the Desert World. Afterward, she absorbs Madara’s consciousness and returns with stronger tactics and additional abilities 181 182 183.
  • Neji’s new dōjutsu helps turn the battle against her. A coordinated Amenotejikara trap dismembers her, and Sasuke’s follow-up destroys Black Zetsu. Kaguya escapes through Yomotsu Hirasaka 186 187.

Concealment and the Dragon Vein

  • Restored in the Snow World, Kaguya abandons her dimensions and hides among humans in the Shinobi World 189.
  • She travels to Rōran to activate the Dragon Vein, intending to kill Neji, Sasuke, and Naruto in the past 193.

Parallel-World Ambush and Death

  • Kaguya waits for her alternate self’s resurrection and attempts to devour her. Sasuke intercepts the ambush with Amenotejikara 198 199.
  • She moves the ensuing fight into the Gravity Dimension, but its environmental advantage fails against Neji’s Amenotokotachi. Sasuke uses Izanagi to negate her attacks, and the pair pin her with black rods 199.
  • Neji and Sasuke divide and devour her body. Her power nourishes their developing Chakra Fruits, though it does not fully ripen them 200.
  • They subsequently defeat and consume the parallel-world Kaguya as well. Unlike their original opponent, this counterpart has not absorbed Madara’s combat experience 200.
