| Right eye approaches Tenseigan | 64 | Concentrates the stolen power of fifteen pairs of Byakugan into his right eye, bringing it just short of evolution. |
| Right golden Tenseigan | 68 | Absorbs the power of Ao’s transplanted Byakugan without removing the eye, completing his right eye’s transformation. |
| First Tenseigan awakening | 69 | Finds his Caged Bird Seal gone and gains flight. The awakening consumes half his accumulated chakra reserves and reveals that the eye remains unstable. |
| Tenseigan Chakra Mode demonstrated | 81 | Uses the mode to compress stolen Nine-Tails chakra into flesh suitable for cultivation. Its acquisition is not shown in the supplied passages. |
| Four Symbols Seal | 89 | Masters it after a month of study and replaces the Five Elements Seal on his body. |
| Perfect jinchūriki and Nine-Tails Chakra Mode | 91 | Seals his created chakra creature, Ju Yan, within himself. Confirms that its mode can combine with Tenseigan Chakra Mode for a greater boost. |
| Complete pair of golden Tenseigan | 110 | Drains Main Family members and finally Hiashi, whose eye power completes the left eye’s evolution. |
| Stable Tenseigan and mastered Monster Strength | 131 | Both eyes stabilize after three rounds of awakening over six months. Fully masters the Senju Clan’s Monster Strength Secret Technique. |
| Great Tenseigan absorption | 133 | Absorbs the lunar temple’s colossal Tenseigan in roughly ten minutes. His own eye power reaches what he perceives as a limit. |

Background / History
Transmigration and the Escape Plan
The original eleven-year-old Neji dies after Hiashi activates the Caged Bird Seal during a sparring session with Hinata. His hostile expression had been directed toward memories of Hiashi and Hizashi’s death, but Hiashi interprets it as killing intent toward Hinata. A foreign soul inherits Neji’s body, memories, abilities, and lingering pain 1.
Having read the original Naruto story, the newcomer recognizes Neji’s expected fate as another sacrificial protector. He concludes that the Caged Bird Seal exists to enforce the Main Family’s control and selects the Tenseigan as his best chance of breaking it 1 2.
Partnership with Sasuke
Neji’s repeated victories over Sasuke develop into a secret training and research partnership. He teaches Sasuke chakra control, challenges his trust in Konoha, and recruits him into a plan to combine inherited chakra through tissue transplantation 4 5 6 12.
After Hiashi refuses permission to study medical ninjutsu, Neji obtains techniques and cloning equipment through Sasuke’s Ninja Cat contacts. He presents knowledge from his previous life as Hyuga clan lore while steering Sasuke toward the Rinnegan and his own goal of the Tenseigan 3 11 12. Their cloned-limb project produces substantial increases in chakra and dōjutsu power 18 24.
Team 3 and the Root Raid
Following graduation, Neji joins Tenten and Rock Lee under Might Guy. Routine missions give him room to develop his techniques, but his increasingly powerful eyes threaten to consume more chakra than he can supply 20 22 26.
Seeking seals capable of containing tailed-beast chakra, he surveys Root’s headquarters and prepares an infiltration. During the raid, he kills guards, steals forbidden-technique scrolls, and eliminates Aburame Ryoma before escaping through Konoha’s sewers. His disguise and evidence disposal conceal his identity 32 35 39 40.
Rebellion in the Land of Water
Neji accompanies a sixteen-person Hyuga delegation to visit Kirigakure’s Kaguya Clan, serving as Keisuke’s guard. He privately considers the journey an opportunity to arrange the elder’s death 49.
While the delegation is hiding in the Land of Water, Neji poisons its provisions after taking an antidote himself. He incapacitates Keisuke and the other members, prevents the elder from activating the seal, and offers the Branch Family guards a chance to join him. When they refuse, he drains the group’s chakra and eye power, killing all fifteen companions—including the final two who beg for mercy 62 63 64.
The stolen power leaves his right eye just short of evolution. He abducts Ao amid the fighting in Kirigakure and absorbs the power of Ao’s Byakugan, awakening a golden Tenseigan. His Caged Bird Seal disappears, but the eye’s awakening creates an immediate need for enormous chakra reserves 68 69.
Independence and Hyuga Revenge
Neji establishes himself in the Land of Waves, uses Gato’s resources to commission a laboratory, and pursues cultivated tailed-beast chakra. He steals the Nine-Tails chakra sealed inside Sora and forces Kazuma to reveal its cultivation method before killing him and his associates 79 81 89. His experiments eventually allow him to become a perfect jinchūriki of Ju Yan 91.
He later returns to Konoha under a Gato Company disguise and supplies Sasuke with intelligence for an attack on Root. While Sasuke searches for evidence about the Uchiha massacre, Neji assaults the Hyuga compound 108.
Neji kills the Main Family members who know how to apply the Caged Bird Seal, drains Hiashi to complete his second Tenseigan, and kills Branch Family members who continue attacking him. He declares the survivors free of Main Family control; this does not establish that their existing seal marks disappear. After gravely injuring Tsunade and leaving Tenten behind, he is designated an S-rank rogue ninja 109 110 111.
Beyond Revenge
Neji turns toward preparation for enemies beyond the shinobi world, emphasizing physical combat against opponents capable of absorbing or nullifying ninjutsu. He stabilizes both Tenseigan, masters Monster Strength, absorbs the Great Tenseigan on the moon, and develops fox-assisted Sage Mode 129 131 133.
During the Ten-Tails conflict, his strength forces Madara and Obito to retreat. Against Kaguya, he upgrades his forehead eye into a six-tomoe Rinnegan and uses Kamui and Boil Release to batter her Ten-Tails form, though her recovery prevents a quick victory 161 185 186.
In the finale passage, Neji and Sasuke divide and consume their own world’s Kaguya. Neji observes that Ōtsutsuki consumption accelerates his internal God Tree’s flowering. With its fruit still enclosed by two petals, the pair targets another world’s Kaguya; completed fruit consumption or godhood is not shown in the supplied ending 200.
Appearance
- Original eyes: White Byakugan, with prominent facial veins when activated 1 15.
- Caged Bird mark: Initially blue-green and concealed beneath his forehead protector; fades as his eyes develop and vanishes after the right Tenseigan evolves 35 69.
- Evolved eyes: Golden Tenseigan, first in the right eye and later in both 68 110.
- Third eye: Obito’s Mangekyō Sharingan implanted in his forehead, subsequently transformed into a six-tomoe Rinnegan 184 185.
- Disguises: Uses a black red-cloud cloak with a tiger-pattern mask during the Root raid, then a black coat and blank mask after killing the Hyuga delegation 40 64.
Personality
Neji is calculating, secretive, and intensely protective of his autonomy. While vulnerable to the Caged Bird Seal, he performs obedience, conceals murderous resentment, and waits for opportunities rather than confronting stronger authorities prematurely. He even imitates his earlier agony to hide his growing resistance to the seal 1 34 35.
His treatment of friends is markedly different from his treatment of enemies. He teases Sasuke, shares powerful techniques, and acknowledges that Sasuke’s support was indispensable to obtaining the Tenseigan. He also sincerely appreciates Guy’s willingness to teach him combat experience 17 22 91. Nevertheless, prolonged abuse fuels increasingly ruthless choices: he kills surrendered clan members, coerces people with Spiritual Beads, and remains detached from Tenten’s distress 64 81 111.
Freedom is his initial overriding goal, but not his final purpose. After gaining independence, he accepts that he has multiple desires rather than one defining dream and continues strengthening himself against the Ōtsutsuki threat 129 133.
Abilities & Skills
Byakugan
- Tracks weapon trajectories and supports nearly 360-degree combat awareness 5 23.
- Reaches approximately twenty kilometers of straight-line vision after transplantation 24.
- Penetrates Root’s defensive barrier and reads portions of the Uchiha Stone Tablet inaccessible to Sasuke’s two-tomoe Sharingan 27 32.
- Its developing power initially creates an unsustainable chakra burden rather than an unrestricted advantage 26.
Tenseigan
- Pressure: Incapacitates most fighters throughout the thousand-person Hyuga compound; even approaching Konoha reinforcements collapse within its reach 109 110.
- Attraction and repulsion: Pulls opponents toward him, throws them away, and arrests incoming ninja tools 109 110.
- Flight: Functions without activating Tenseigan Chakra Mode 69.
- Spiritual Beads: Overrides the actions of Kazuma and his associates; also used on Gato and Hanabi 79 81 110.
- Chakra Mode: Provides a greater enhancement than his created beast’s Nine-Tails Chakra Mode; combining both is stronger still 91.
- Awakening limitation: The newly evolved eyes require repeated, chakra-intensive awakenings before stabilizing 69 131.
Chakra and Eye-Power Absorption
- Begins as an ability requiring touch or a suitable opportunity 26.
- Drains chakra and Byakugan eye power together, strengthening his own eyes while leaving victims withered 63 64.
- Later operates at range, allowing him to drain multiple Hyuga without touching them 110.
- Transfers Isobu’s chakra through his body into Armored Dragon and absorbs the Great Tenseigan’s power 91 133.
Gentle Fist and Monster Strength
- Disables limbs through precise strikes and uses Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms as an early finishing option 4.
- Incorporates force-dispersal and explosive Strong Fist-like power while retaining Gentle Fist’s penetrating damage 23.
- Develops Vacuum Palm, Sky-Breaking Palm, and Divine Vacuum Strike into increasingly destructive ranged attacks 5 22 26.
- Masters the Senju Monster Strength technique, converting his exceptional chakra into physical force 129 131.
Rasengan and Elemental Techniques
- Performs the Rasengan without hand seals and develops its Fire Release variations 16 17 53.
- Uses Fire Release: Rasenshuriken against Obito’s Wood Release and Yagura’s Water Release 68.
- Learns Great Fireball from Sasuke and uses it to destroy evidence after the Root raid 40.
- Combines Boil Release with his later physical attacks to smash Kaguya’s armored Ten-Tails form 186.
Medical Ninjutsu and Sealing
- Delicate Illness Extraction: Supports poison removal and organ extraction or transplantation 11 15.
- Accelerated Healing: Speeds recovery at the cost of cellular lifespan 11 15.
- Uses medical knowledge to prepare a slow-acting poison and an antidote for his rebellion against Keisuke 62.
- Masters the Five Elements and Four Symbols Seals, using the latter to contain chakra creatures 48 89 91.
- Advanced sealing initially defeats his intuition; he needs foundational techniques from Sasuke before making progress 42 45.
Sage Mode and Chakra Creatures
- Creates Ju Yan from cultivated Nine-Tails-derived chakra and becomes its perfect jinchūriki 81 89 91.
- His created beast differs from a natural tailed beast: it cannot revive after death 91.
- Uses the Seven-Tailed Foxes to gather natural energy for Sage Mode; independent natural-energy gathering remains unfinished in the supplied training account 133.
Six Paths Power, Kamui, and Regeneration
- Uses a giant stone statue and Truth-Seeking Orb tornado to destroy Madara’s Perfect Susanoo 161.
- Regenerates his body within two breaths as a Ten-Tails jinchūriki 184.
- Gains access to Kamui through Obito’s forehead eye, retrieves Naruto from its dimension, and uses intangibility against Kaguya 184 185 186.
- Evolves the forehead eye into a six-tomoe Rinnegan by fusing another Mangekyō with Six Paths power. Its additional, distinct dōjutsu is not identified in the supplied account 185.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Kunai and tachi — Uses a kunai to deflect Sasuke’s shuriken and a tachi during the cloned-arm transplantation procedure 5 18.
- Cloning equipment and cultivation containers — Obtained through Cat Granny; the bulky equipment is kept in Ninja Cat territory rather than brought into Konoha 11 18.
- Storage scrolls — Carry stolen techniques and spare clothing; limited capacity forces him to prioritize loot during the Root raid 35 39 40.
- Root technique scrolls — Steals Impure World Reincarnation, the Five Elements Seal, Yin Seal, Four Symbols Seal, and Spirit Transformation Technique. Possession does not establish mastery of every technique 39 42.
- Eye container — Preserves Obito’s Mangekyō Sharingan until its forehead implantation 176 184.
Relationships
- Sasuke Uchiha — Closest friend, rival, student, and research partner. Their cooperation progresses from secret transplantation experiments to shared battles and Ōtsutsuki consumption 12 18 19 91 185 200.
- Hizashi Hyuga — Father of the original Neji. His death becomes central to the transmigrator’s resentment; Neji rejects Hiashi’s account of a freely chosen sacrifice 1 109.
- Hiashi Hyuga — Uncle, clan head, and principal oppressor. His seal activation kills the original Neji; the transmigrator eventually kills him and absorbs his eye power 1 110.
- Hinata Hyuga — Cousin and assigned training partner. Her kindness initially earns his remaining affection toward the Main Family, but he later mocks and overwhelms her after killing Hiashi 25 49 110.
- Hanabi Hyuga — Cousin and occasional sparring partner. During his revenge, he uses a Spiritual Bead to question whether she knows how to inscribe the Caged Bird Seal 14 110.
- Hyuga Keisuke — Abusive elder who repeatedly threatens or activates Neji’s seal. Becomes his first discovered source of stolen Byakugan eye power 15 20 62 63.
- Might Guy — Former team leader. Neji values his combat guidance; Guy later tells Tenten and Lee to regard Neji as Konoha’s enemy 22 129.
- Tenten — Former teammate with romantic interest in him. Neji does not reciprocate, and his attack on the Hyuga leaves her devastated 20 25 111.
- Rock Lee — Former teammate who treats Neji as an eternal rival and motivation to train harder 20 22.
- Ju Huo — Ninja Cat messenger and supplier who maintains contact between Neji and Sasuke 17 64 89 91.
