It sounded a little unbelievable, and a little ridiculous.
The Xinfei Merchant Guild had discovered the Demoncloud Continent more than a decade ago and had been developing it without pause ever since. By now, it even controlled a vast region there and had firmly established itself.
Yet Xu Yi, the president of the Xinfei Merchant Guild, had never visited the Demoncloud Continent even once.
Seeing the surprise in President Cruz's eyes, Xu Yi nodded and gave a quiet murmur of assent.
"It's about time I went to have a look. The guild has invested so much in the Demoncloud Continent. As its president, I really can't justify not going there myself."
President Cruz shook his head.
There was nothing wrong with Xu Yi's reasoning, but it still had little direct connection to his sudden decision to visit the Demoncloud Continent.
What he wanted to hear was Xu Yi's real reason.
"The real reason... is that the past decade or so was crucial to the development of both our guild and the entire Sains Continent. I didn't want anything unexpected to happen because I was away for a while."
"And you think leaving now won't be a problem?" President Cruz pressed.
"It won't."
"Really?" President Cruz eyed Xu Yi skeptically.
He did not believe Xu Yi's explanation.
It was certainly true that the Xinfei Merchant Guild had been in a crucial stage of development over the past decade or so.
But to say it was so crucial that Xu Yi, its president, could not even leave the Sains Continent was rather an exaggeration.
On the surface, the Sains Continent seemed peaceful now, just as it had over the previous ten years. Everyone was busy focusing on development.
But President Cruz had heard something of the turbulent currents beneath that calm surface.
