Geography and Territory
- Agricultural heartland: Most of the original kingdom consists of fertile plains suited to large-scale farming 392.
- Murto Mountain Ranges: The historical northern border with the Sark Kingdom. At its founding, Lampari seized land south of the range from Sark, establishing a territorial dispute that lasted centuries 333.
- Bunta City: Xinfei’s original industrial center, which developed from a remote city into a major economic hub 442.
- Anvilmar City: The capital and location of the Royal Palace; its recorded population was slightly above 200,000 during Bunta’s early industrial expansion 473 884.
- Expanded territory: After annexing Sark, receiving 240,000 square kilometers of former Frank territory, and incorporating two small duchies, Lampari’s total area approached 1.5 million square kilometers 1110.
- Angelia: Subsequently incorporated following unconditional surrender after two and a half years of war 1261.
Government and Institutions
Royal Authority and Nobility
The royal family traditionally valued frugality and practical results. After taking power during an upheaval, Lampari the Thirteenth prohibited extravagance; the Royal Palace consequently remained unrenovated for more than a decade and was less impressive than many nobles’ estates 106.
Royal landownership was a major source of authority. Early in Xu Yi’s career, the royal family owned more than seventy percent of the kingdom’s territory, excluding noble estates, and had historically withheld land grants from newly elevated nobles. Xu Yi later received an exceptional fief, promotion to viscount, and permission to remain a merchant through Lampari the Thirteenth’s patronage 132 532.
- Succession: Princesses possess succession rights alongside princes. Servini had the same legal claim as her two brothers and eventually became the sixth queen in the kingdom’s history 156 610.
- Crown Prince tradition: Eligible royal children could receive Crown Prince status and organize private guards before a final heir was selected. Lampari the Thirteenth’s decision to grant that status to all three children revived a practice associated with earlier succession crises 464.
- Limits on noble armies: The royal house constrained private armies through political pressure rather than an explicit statutory cap. One measure required great nobles to contribute troops proportionally to the casualty-heavy Northern Garrison 496.
- Local loyalty: Commoners initially identified more strongly with their immediate lord than with the kingdom. A noble’s treason therefore attracted little popular reaction when royal authority weakened 340.
- Noble–merchant ties: Major merchant guilds commonly relied on noble backing despite mutual social contempt between the two groups 326.
State Institutions
| Institution | Documented function |
|---|---|
| Kingdom Parliament | Maintained a Gendarmerie and participated in preparations for the mana communication network 571 799 |
| Nobles’ Council | Its political position prevented the royal house from simply legislating explicit limits on noble private armies 496 |
| Military Department | Managed military reports and expenditure; the Northern Garrison consumed more than half its annual budget during the prolonged Sark confrontation 363 |
| Agriculture Bureau | Compiled harvest reports and evaluated agricultural performance 363 |
| Labor Bureau | Recorded workers migrating to Bunta City 442 |
| Commerce Office | Prepared import tariffs covering machinery manufactured outside the kingdom, including goods sold by domestic guilds 550 |
| Magic Industry Administration | Regulated the machinery industry through favored guilds and manufacturing standards; Xu Yi later offered it Xinfei’s quality-control procedures 550 576 614 1074 |
History
Founding and Early Weakness
Lampari’s founding established the Murto border and its enduring rivalry with Sark. For centuries, neither kingdom initially possessed the economic capacity or willingness to settle the dispute through full-scale war, but minor border clashes continued 333.
An upheaval more than a decade before Xu Yi’s palace visit severely weakened Lampari. Lampari the Thirteenth secured the throne during that crisis and spent his reign attempting to restore the country. Even afterward, Lampari ranked in the lower middle among the continent’s kingdoms and remained far below the Malo and Candel empires 106 363.
Sark exploited its greater national strength to force recurring military expenditure on Lampari. The king understood this as an attempt to exhaust the treasury without accepting the losses and international risks of outright conquest 363.
Industrialization under Lampari the Thirteenth
Xinfei’s machinery offered solutions to both agricultural shortages and military supply problems. Servini recognized that magic-powered forging equipment could reduce the cost of armor and weapons, strengthening the army while creating conditions for peaceful development 186.
The Northern Garrison’s recovery of the Murto Mountain Ranges demonstrated that advantage. New armor, weapons, abundant steel arrows, and powerful siege machinery overturned Sark’s initial success. The victory nevertheless created another financial burden: holding the mountains required more than 40,000 gold coins per month 333 363.
Lampari the Thirteenth supported Xu Yi personally but did not approve every proposal. When Servini sought free trade rights for Xinfei as part of a broader development plan, he refused outright 363.
Eric’s Reign and the Stark Ascendancy
Lampari the Thirteenth died an unnatural death. Servini later obtained information identifying Eric as the mastermind of his poisoning and Duke Stark as the chief accomplice who carried out the plan. Eric’s accession initially appeared unusually smooth and dispelled public fears of civil strife 524 526 600.
Under Eric, conservative nobles led by Stark expanded their control. Nobles were stripped of office, Duke Festarlin was imprisoned for alleged treason, and arrests provoked armed resistance. The royal garrison also fractured: its First Army remained loyal to the king, while its Second Army followed Stark’s commands 571.
Industrial restrictions and tariffs forced Xinfei away from its original home market. Eric eventually began welcoming the guild back, but died suddenly before that rapprochement could fully develop. His five-year-old son William inherited the throne, leaving practical control with Regent Duke Stark 550 576 600.
Servini’s Civil War and Accession
Servini returned to investigate Eric’s suspicious death and oppose Stark’s rule. Xu Yi supplied her 5,000-strong Private Guard with individual military magic machinery, additional weapons, and vehicles, although he did not intervene directly 600.
The expected prolonged civil war instead became a rapid defeat for Stark. Less than two months after fighting began, Servini’s guards entered Anvilmar; more than three-quarters of the kingdom’s cities declared support for her. Stark fled with William but subsequently surrendered and was found dead from poison the following day 605 606.
Servini pardoned some Stark family offenses to end the conflict quickly and reduce the kingdom’s vulnerability to Sark. After her coronation, popular support and demonstrated military strength allowed her to gain control over almost the entire kingdom in less than half a year 606 610 623.
Recovery, Trade, and the Defeat of Sark
Servini renewed cooperation with Xinfei, expanded manufacturing, and invested in roads and military modernization. The kingdom developed into the strongest of the small countries in the continent’s southwestern corner 628 648 878.
Relations with Sark temporarily thawed through peace talks, a free trade zone, resource access, and agricultural cooperation. Lampari even facilitated Sark’s purchase of Xinfei farmland machinery and adoption of Bunta’s farming methods 705 767.
A later war ended in an overwhelming Lampari victory. The Northern Garrison advanced to Sark’s capital, forcing a ceasefire that ceded seven cities, imposed 20 million gold coins in reparations, and opened Sark’s territory to Lampari and Xinfei 958.
Continental War and Expansion
Nearly ten years after the earlier Sark war, Sark attempted a counteroffensive during the great empires’ conflict with Xinfei. Lampari crushed the renewed resistance, occupied Sark’s capital, and ultimately annexed the kingdom after its unconditional surrender 1100 1101 1110.
Lampari also fought alongside the Drake Duchy against Frank and Malo forces. The allies destroyed the Frank Kingdom, divided its territory, and gained a direct territorial connection to Lampari through the incorporation of two intervening duchies 1110.
Against the Marfa Coalition Army, Lampari initially retreated to prepared defenses in the Grixius Mountain Ranges. Reinforcements enabled a counterattack that annihilated approximately two-thirds of the coalition’s 200,000-strong main force and killed an Archmage. Lampari subsequently invaded the Malo Empire’s homeland 1128 1129 1131.
Independent Development and Raymond’s Succession
Servini secretly pursued domestic military machinery research, believing the kingdom required strength independent of Xinfei. This contributed to her estrangement from Xu Yi, but produced equipment exceeding Xinfei designs from ten years earlier 1227.
Lampari later defeated Angelia entirely through its own strength. Servini then abdicated in favor of her only son, Raymond. The transfer proceeded smoothly; she remained involved in policymaking during a transition of about half a year before withdrawing from public life 1261 1262.
War over the Former Candel Empire
Lampari entered Kamal Province claiming to protect its citizens, defeated local and Malo forces, and secured the province within a month and a half. Kamal subsequently became an autonomous territory with an elected parliament and lord rather than being described as a direct Lampari annexation 1273.
Early victories against Malo gave way to a prolonged war. Malo’s full industrial mobilization exposed Lampari’s smaller resource base, insufficient troops, extended battlefront, and long supply lines. Rebellions in former Angelia, Sark, and Frank territory intensified the crisis 1279 1281.
After unsuccessful Xinfei-mediated peace talks, 30,000 Xinfei guards reinforced Lampari’s main front. The combined forces drove Malo out of former Candel territory and advanced into the empire itself 1281.

Manufacturing
- Early expansion: Tax concessions and priority rights encouraged guilds to enter magic machinery manufacturing, but also attracted producers selling low-quality fans simply to qualify for benefits 416.
- Joint ventures: Seventy-six factories cooperating with Xinfei collectively exceeded its household machinery output in one reported month. Their products served the low- and mid-range markets and were exported to six neighboring countries 628.
- Technology licensing: Local guilds obtained household machinery technology through Xinfei licenses; the kingdom did not own the underlying core patents 769 884.
- Domestic innovation: A local guild developed a stove with multiple heat settings and two simultaneous flames, a capability Xinfei’s stoves then lacked 1035.
- Quality-control crisis: Guilds using substandard steel suffered defective products and damaged reputations. Xinfei resumed steel supplies on installment terms and offered standardized operating procedures 1074.
Transport, Communications, and Training
| Project | Scope |
|---|---|
| National road network | Exceeded 50,000 kilometers after a year of intensive construction; every city was connected, and village road building had begun 648 |
| Mana communication network | Planned more than 100 signal towers within Lampari, linking with 50 in the Black Rice Wasteland to connect Xinfei’s Stantin base with Anvilmar 799 |
| Industrial training academies | Seventeen academies planned over three years; more than thirty guilds offered tuition and employment arrangements 799 |
| Road upgrades | Five-year program including an eight-lane Bunta–Anvilmar road, principally partnered with the Amli Merchant Guild 799 |
| Construction manufacturing | Xinfei agreed to help establish three cement factories and an engineering machinery plant 799 |
Military and Technology
Armed Forces
- Northern Garrison: The principal force opposing Sark and the recipient of extensive modernization. By the later continental war, it numbered more than 50,000 troops and possessed fifteen armed Mana Airships 363 1101.
- West-Garrison Army: Operated around the Black Rice Wasteland. Servini granted Xinfei command over a portion of the army for matters involving that region and the Stantin Duchy in exchange for financial support 576 628.
- Kingdom Garrison Army: Traditionally regarded as the royal family’s private army and final safeguard; consisted of three armies whose loyalties divided during Stark’s ascendancy 571.
- Servini’s Private Guard: Its Xinfei-supplied equipment proved decisive during the civil war 600 605.
Industrial Capabilities
- Basic domestic military production: Lampari mastered Magic Repeating Crossbows and Small Magic Rocket Launchers and established its own military machinery factories 667.
- Additional technology transfers: Xinfei exchanged fifteen technologies, including three military technologies, for long-term metal mining rights and permanent ownership of five Magic Crystal Mines 889.
- Fire-type mana engine: Lampari independently developed an engine that broke Xinfei’s production monopoly. Its initial model was underpowered and unstable compared with Xinfei’s, but Xinfei publicly praised the achievement and offered supporting technology 1239.
- Long-range mana missiles: Deployed weapons capable of highly accurate attacks from hundreds of kilometers away. Lampari claimed that usable stocks were limited and the technology remained preliminary 1276.
- Aviation policy: Despite its industrial foundation, the kingdom resisted investment in aviation because of Servini’s personal aversion to that field 1261.
Kamal Campaign Equipment
| Capability | Lampari deployment or advantage |
|---|---|
| Troops | Two corps totaling 60,000, against Malo’s 110,000 1273 |
| Mana cannons | More than 3,200, including 1,200 large cannons exceeding 100 mm and 300 super cannons exceeding 200 mm 1273 |
| Mana tanks | 500, against Malo’s 300; superior armor, firepower, and movement speed 1273 |
| Combat airships | 300 ultra-fast airships capable of exceeding 300 km/h 1273 |
| Airship armament | Large-caliber rapid-fire mana machine guns, small mana cannons, and five mana missiles per craft 1273 |
| Mana Repeating Guns | Twenty-four consecutive shots per magazine, compared with eighteen for the opposing Malo corps 1275 |
Strategic Limits
- Industrial dependence: Earlier household machinery growth did not automatically produce a complete military supply chain; steel, machine tools, and skilled operators remained essential bottlenecks 614.
- Mana defenses: Shields allowed Lampari troops to survive repeated forbidden spells and withdraw with limited losses, but did not initially prevent retreat against four coalition Archmages 1129.
- Resource depth: Annexed territory could not immediately be converted into usable national strength. Angelia required suppression, while unrest in Sark continued consuming troops and attention 1279.
- Sustained mobilization: The resources available to support an army of 130,000 proved inadequate once Malo committed its full national industrial capacity 1279.
Foreign Relations
- Xinfei Merchant Guild — Originated in Lampari and became its central industrial and military partner. Political restrictions drove its main base abroad; Servini restored cooperation, though her secret weapons research later strained relations with Xu Yi 600 628 953 1227.
- Sark Kingdom — Centuries-long rival, temporary trading partner, and eventual annexed territory. Restoration forces later renewed resistance within its former borders 333 705 1110 1281.
- Drake Duchy / Kingdom — Military ally against Frank and Malo; shared the former Frank Kingdom’s territory after its destruction 1110 1150.
- Rulson Kingdom — Friendly neighbor whose leadership nevertheless watched Lampari’s growing military advantage with concern 667.
- Candel Empire — Increasingly interested in Lampari’s industrial technology. Servini rejected a delegation’s demand for access, citing Xinfei’s patents and their protection by the Mages’ Guild Headquarters 884.
- Malo Empire — Principal rival in later continental warfare; its deeper reserves eventually challenged Lampari’s technological advantage 1273 1279.
- Angelia Kingdom — Defeated and incorporated after two and a half years of war; an Angelia Restoration Army subsequently attacked Lampari occupation forces 1261 1281.
- Kamal Autonomous Territory — Emerged after Lampari’s intervention, with open elections, a National Parliament, and Duke Noipela elected as its first lord 1273.
