On the way to Falling Rain Valley, President Pombelli and President Cruz had never quite understood the purpose or value of the driver's license Xu Yi had mentioned.
As they saw it, handling a horse-drawn carriage was quite difficult too. Without years of experience, a driver could hardly do it well. Yet they had never heard of a carriage driver having to obtain a license before driving. Why did driving this magic locomotive require one?
But when they arrived at Falling Rain Valley and saw the magic locomotive racing around the large track specially built in a valley near its northern end, both men were stunned. They instantly understood why Xu Yi required magic locomotive drivers to obtain licenses.
"Th-this... this is far too fast!" President Cruz watched the magic locomotive roar toward them from the distance, hurtle past him in an instant, and race so far down the track that it became a tiny black dot. With a dazed expression, he murmured, "Gods above, imagine getting hit by that thing!"
Besides shock, President Pombelli's face showed even greater excitement.
He widened his small eyes and stared fixedly at the black dot speeding around the track. After silently making a comparison, he realized that this thing was only slightly slower than a fine horse galloping at full speed!
But a fine horse could not maintain a full gallop for very long. Ever since he had first seen this magic locomotive, however, it had maintained that speed for a good ten laps around the enormous track, covering at least ten kilometers!
"P-President Xu, th-this must be going faster than thirty-five kilometers an hour..." President Pombelli could not help asking Xu Yi beside him, his voice trembling slightly.
Xu Yi's facial muscles twitched. Watching Canby sitting in the magic locomotive as it
