The method could be summed up in a single sentence.
Was the cliff too high? Simple-just fill it in!
For most ordinary people on the Sains Continent, a fifty-meter cliff was an impassable natural barrier. So when the Rulson Kingdom and the Amli Merchant Guild first heard that Xu Yi wanted to build a road straight through here to the Rulson Kingdom, they both thought he had gone utterly mad.
But to Xu Yi, a fifty-meter cliff hardly counted as a difficult obstacle on technologically advanced Earth.
There were many ways to solve this problem on Earth. Given the Sains Continent's current level of technology, however, Xu Yi ultimately chose the simplest, most brute-force method: filling in the cliff.
More specifically, they would use vast quantities of rock and earth to raise the lower ground on the Stantin Duchy side, building up a roadbed high enough to connect to the Rulson Kingdom on the other side of the cliff.
Of course, filling it in completely was impossible. All Xu Yi wanted was a sloping roadbed on which they could lay a road.
Taking the cliff's height and the road's gradient into account, calculations put the roadbed's length at five kilometers. With a minimum width of fifty meters as well, the amount of rock and earth required would be astronomical.
With the Sains Continent's previous level of technology, both excavating and transporting that rock and earth would have relied entirely on manual labor. Completing such an enormous project would have required at least ten thousand laborers and taken several years, perhaps even more than a decade.
A project on that scale could only have been undertaken through the will of a nation. There was simply no other possibility.
Now, however, with the help of the Engineering Magic Machinery developed by the
