"Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom..."
Countless streaks of red light fell from the sky and slammed into the Spirit Tortoise Legion's positions, setting off a string of violent explosions.
Legion Commander Thomas watched helplessly as the defensive position his entire legion had spent a full six months building crumbled like wet cardboard amid the explosions. Beyond his shock, what he felt most was a chilling dread.
The Spirit Tortoise Legion under his command had always been renowned for its defensive prowess in the Sark Kingdom. They had spent the past six months working desperately on these fortifications, yet now they proved utterly vulnerable.
If those attacks had targeted the Spirit Tortoise Legion sheltering behind the outer fortifications rather than the fortifications themselves, the legion would probably have suffered devastating losses by now.
Seeing another burst of fire rise from the enemy positions, Legion Commander Thomas sighed and told the personal guard beside him, "Pass down the order. The entire army is to retreat."
The guard froze. "Sir, this..."
"No arguments. Go relay the order." Legion Commander Thomas waved him away.
The guard's face was full of bewilderment and resentment, but he dared not ask any more questions. He saluted, then passed the order down.
"Ah, Thomas, it looks like we're still in no position to take on those people from the Xinfei Merchant Guild head-on." Durank, the Spirit Tortoise Legion's Chief of Staff, walked over from the side and sighed softly.
Legion Commander Thomas gave a bitter laugh. "Forget taking on those monsters from the Xinfei Merchant Guild. I think we'd be just as helpless against the Lampari Kingdom."
After a pause, Legion Commander Thomas suddenly cursed under his breath.
"Damn it, this is all that accursed Xinfei Merchant Guild's fault! They came up with this blasted military magic machinery.
