Battling Great Mages was fundamentally different from battling ordinary mages.
Ordinary mages mainly attacked by hurling all kinds of elemental magic. Against the mana shields of the Xinfei Merchant Guild's Mana Airships and Mana Armored Vehicles, however, those attacks accomplished little. Instead, the counterattacks from various kinds of Military Magic Machinery routed them.
The greatest difference between them and Great Mages was that Great Mages had mastered Space Magic.
This meant Great Mages did not need to hover foolishly in midair, trading spells with the Xinfei Merchant Guild Guard Corps like ordinary mages. They could use the advantages of Space Magic to evade ordinary attacks with ease, or even strike back directly with powerful Space Magic.
As soon as the five Great Mages began their counterattack, spatial collapses of various types and sizes appeared throughout the battlefield.
This was the defining feature of Space Magic. Rather than gathering magic elements to form spells for an attack, it used mana to influence space directly, then attacked the enemy through spatial distortions.
Space Magic was fundamentally different from ordinary elemental magic. With their command of Space Magic, Great Mages could completely overwhelm ordinary mages, leaving them utterly unable to fight back.
Thus, despite the Xinfei Merchant Guild Guard Corps having unexpectedly routed the Glory Legion's mages with ease, these five Great Mages remained supremely confident.
Indeed, deploying five Great Mages at once against the Xinfei Merchant Guild Guard Corps already showed how seriously they took their enemy in light of Great Mage Glofin's earlier death.
Yet... once the fighting truly began, the Glory Legion's five Great Mages were astonished to discover that their previously almost invincible Space Magic failed to produce the results they had expected against the Xinfei Merchant Guild Guard Corps' Mana Airships and Mana Armored Vehicles.
