Background / History
The Ling family is of ordinary standing, with resources far below those of the Heavenly Dragon Sect. Ling Luochen’s selection as one of Shrek’s Seven Monsters gives the family considerable pride. As its first ice-element Soul Master in several centuries, she bears the family’s hopes of rising in prominence 6 7.
Far North Expedition
Two family elders accompany Luochen to Dragon City to help obtain her fifth Soul Ring. Initially, they attribute the Heavenly Dragon Sect’s courteous reception to Shrek’s prestige and question whether Yu Tianjun’s recommended soul beast is worthy of her. Luochen rebukes their assumptions and insists on following the guide’s original plan 7.
During the journey, the elders become convinced of Tianjun’s competence after he repeatedly navigates the party around dangerous soul beasts. When they encounter a wounded thirteen-thousand-year Frost Abyss Cold Wyrm, they decide to risk their lives for Luochen’s chance at a stronger Soul Ring. They apologize to Tianjun and ask him to escort her to safety if they die 8.
The battle overwhelms the family’s three Soul Masters. Ling Da suffers serious injuries, while Ling Er burns his Soul Power to strengthen his attacks. Tianjun intervenes, defeats the wyrm, and rescues them, but cannot save Ling Er. Luochen subsequently absorbs the wyrm’s soul ring and matching soul bone, reaching Soul King 9 10.
Proposed Relocation
After forming a sworn sibling bond with Tianjun, Luochen intends to remain at the Heavenly Dragon Sect and eventually move the Ling family to Dragon City. The relocation is presented as a plan, not a completed move 10 14.
Following his escape from Yan Shaozhe, Tianjun proposes that Luochen publicly sever ties with him and take her family away from Dragon City. She refuses to entertain that option and demands to hear his alternative 27.
