Background / History
Adoption of Lin Mo
Old Jerry found and adopted Lin Mo after his transmigration left him in the body of a three-year-old child. Three years later, he brought the boy to the annual martial-soul awakening in neighboring Holy Soul Village, since Lin Mo was Soul Emperor Village’s only eligible child that year 1.
Martial-Soul Awakening
Hoping to help Lin Mo, Jerry tried to slip Spirit Hall attendant Su Yuntao a silver coin saved through scrimping. Su Yuntao refused, explaining that awakening children was his duty. While the ceremony proceeded, Jerry and Holy Soul Village chief Old Jack argued outside about whose village would produce a soul master 1.
Jerry was overjoyed to learn that Lin Mo had innate full soul power and a high-grade Blazing Sun Serpent martial soul. Although he did not recognize the serpent, its reported grade was enough to convince him of the boy’s promise. He awarded Lin Mo the village’s sole work-study place and celebrated with a meat dinner. He also boasted to Old Jack that Soul Emperor Village might eventually become “Soul Saint Village” or even “Soul Douluo Village” 3.
Journey to the Academy
Three months later, Jerry escorted Lin Mo to Nuoding City for enrollment at the Junior Soul Master Academy. Along the way, he explained what he knew about soul masters, academies, and soul rings, though his limited experience left him only partly familiar with these subjects. He encouraged Lin Mo by describing the monthly Gold Soul Coin subsidy available after obtaining a soul ring 3.
When Lin Mo unexpectedly produced a Gold Soul Coin in the street, Jerry immediately covered his hand, carried him to a less crowded corner, and demanded to know where it had come from 3.
At the academy gates, Jerry presented Lin Mo’s enrollment certificate. He initially expected the boy to accept Yu Xiaogang’s offer of instruction, but chose not to interfere when Lin Mo refused. Lin Mo later handed his Soul Coins to Jerry before entering the academy 4.
Appearance
- Elderly: Described as approximately the same age as Old Jack 1.
- Walking cane: Leans on a cane when collecting Lin Mo for the awakening ceremony and carries it during the subsequent celebration 1 3.
- Modest clothing: Dresses in clean clothes for the enrollment journey; Lin Mo later observes that both their outfits are ragged 3.
Personality
Jerry is affectionate and attentive toward Lin Mo, calling him “Little Mo,” celebrating his success with food, and personally preparing for his enrollment journey. His concern extends to everyday supervision: Lin Mo expects Jerry to come looking for him if he stays out too late 3.
He is competitive about village prestige, particularly around Old Jack. His pride in Lin Mo’s talent prompts extravagant predictions about the village’s future name, while his attempt to reward Su Yuntao shows his willingness to spend scarce savings on the boy’s behalf 1 3.
Despite his limited knowledge of cultivation, Jerry respects Lin Mo’s judgment. He does not force the boy to accept Yu Xiaogang as a teacher, even though the offer initially impresses him 4.
Relationships
- Lin Mo — Adoptive grandson. Jerry raises him, secures his work-study opportunity, and accompanies him to the academy 1 3 4.
- Old Jack — Rival village chief. They argue over their villages’ prospects and compare the children’s potential 1 3 4.
- Su Yuntao — Spirit Hall attendant conducting Lin Mo’s awakening. Jerry treats him deferentially and offers a silver coin, which Su Yuntao declines 1.
Trivia
- Jerry is an early target of Lin Mo’s copying ability: Lin Mo obtains a copied Silver Soul Coin from him while experimenting with the Eye of Myriad Phenomena 3.
