Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Pre-awakening spatial ability 1 Discovers at age three that parts of his body can slip into space. Conceals the ability from Tang Hao and Tang San.
Mutated Blue Silver Grass; innate full soul power 1 2 Awakens silver-white Blue Silver Grass. The awakening strengthens his existing control over space and time.
First ring; level 13 3 4 Absorbs an over-600-year Soul-Devouring Thorn ring. Gains Healing, while his martial soul separately inherits vitality- and soul-power-draining traits. Level 13 is confirmed retrospectively.
Level 15 4 Reaches level 15 after three months. Develops Spatial Movement, a Rasengan-like technique, and Blue Silver Grass-based perception.
Mutated Blue Silver Emperor 5 Consumes Ah Yin’s weakened plant form. His martial soul evolves, his appearance changes, and dormant spacetime power activates, increasing teleportation range dozens of times over.
Level-20 bottleneck; Blue Silver Emperor soul bone 6 Absorbs the Blue Silver Emperor’s soul bone and reaches the level-20 bottleneck. Develops Spacetime Isolation before seeking his second ring.
Earth, ice, and fire attributes 8 Refines an Earth Dragon Golden Melon into his martial soul, adding earth power approaching the ultimate level. Three days of exposure to the well’s energy add ice and fire properties and improve his elemental resistance.
Ice-and-fire body tempering 9 Consumes Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot, then enters the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well to temper his body.
Second ring: 5,000 years 10 Absorbs a Thousand-Leaf Clone Vine’s purple ring and gains Clone Technique, enabling dangerous cultivation experiments through expendable copies.
Increased spiritual power 12 Consumes the medicinal dew of Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew in preparation for a ten-thousand-year third ring.
Martial-soul strengthening through devouring 13 Drains powerful plant soul beasts while spending excess soul power on Healing. Retains life essence without having to hold all the absorbed energy at once.
Third ring; level 34 15 Absorbs a ten-thousand-year liquid slime’s black ring. His right-leg soul bone repairs internal damage during absorption. Gains bodily transformation and martial-soul appearance simulation.
Five-element martial soul; ultimate fire 22 After a year of cultivation supported by Ye Family resources, possesses metal, wood, water, fire, and earth attributes. The well’s fire energy completes his ultimate fire attribute.
Ultimate earth 22 Devours a five-thousand-year Earth Dragon’s life essence, confirming that ultimate-attribute energy can catalyze further evolution. Wood remains short of ultimate, water has not reached its limit, and metal is his least-developed element.

Background / History

Gu Ping’an was an ordinary working man on Blue Star. After leaving his office, he was struck by a beautiful girl falling from the sky. He regained consciousness as an orphan on the Douluo Continent and was adopted by Old Jack in Holy Soul Village 1.

He discovered his spatial ability at age three and concealed it out of fear that Tang Hao would eliminate an unusually talented child. He later theorized that spacetime energy encountered during transmigration had mutated his soul, affected his body, and altered his Blue Silver Grass. This explanation remains his own hypothesis 1 2.

Although he generally avoided the Tang family, he once tried to befriend Tang San by sharing food. He later interpreted those interactions as one-sided and concluded that Tang San would become an enemy rather than an ally 5.

Appearance

  • Before martial-soul evolution: A delicate-featured boy with short black hair, black eyes, and plain clothing. Sisi considers him exceptionally adorable 1 2 5.
  • After consuming the Blue Silver Emperor: Long silver-white hair interspersed with gold, silver-white and gold eyes, increased height, and a faint imperial aura 5.
  • After his third ring: Grows until he is almost as tall as Dugu Yan, rather than resembling an ordinary six-year-old 15.
  • Martial soul: Initially silver-white grass; later bears gold threads and five-colored patterns corresponding to metal, wood, water, fire, and earth 1 22.
  • Disguised appearance: Can alter his body, hair, eyes, martial soul, and apparent ring colors to conceal his identity and abnormal ring configuration 15 23.

Personality

Gu Ping’an is cautious, self-directed, and methodical. He studies soul-beast records before selecting rings, tests unfamiliar techniques rather than trusting their authors, and checks the Ye Family’s pastries for possible poisoning by asking Ye Lingling to eat first. His willingness to absorb unusually old rings rests on physical preparation, though his third-ring absorption still nearly overwhelms him 2 3 7 11 15.

His ambition extends beyond conventional divine inheritance. He chooses an uncertain elemental-evolution route over a safer path toward godhood and later rejects a Douluo divine seat because he considers the Divine Realm’s inability to withstand void turbulence unacceptable 8 17.

He combines gratitude with coercion. He repays the Ye Family with an immortal herb, sincerely thanks Dugu Bo for useful guidance, and gives the Dugu family his improved cultivation method. Conversely, he threatens Dugu Yan to force Dugu Bo’s surrender, compels Xiao Wu to become his servant, and deliberately undermines her trust in the Tang family 8 11 17 18 21.

Despite his confidence and frequent taunts, he is easily embarrassed by personal teasing. Ye Lingling’s mother flusters him enough to make him retreat through spatial isolation, while Dugu Yan’s declaration that he is her “husband” leaves him struggling to respond 7 12.

Abilities & Skills

Spacetime Manipulation

  • Spatial Movement: Teleports between locations; his initial range spans roughly one side of Nuoding City to the other 4 5.
  • Expanded range: Blue Silver Emperor evolution activates his dormant spacetime power and increases that range dozens of times over 5.
  • Spacetime Isolation: Separates him from the continent’s spacetime, making him unseen and untouchable to ordinary observers and attacks 6.
  • Defensive applications: Bypasses the well’s poison miasma, defeats Dugu Bo’s attacks and Time Freeze, and shields others from experimental explosions 7 8 11.
  • Interaction limit: Must become visible and vulnerable when interacting with outside objects 6.
  • Uncertain counters: He does not know whether Gu Rong’s spatial abilities could threaten him; immunity to every possible spatial attack is not established 16.

Blue Silver Devour

  • Drains vitality and soul power through Blue Silver Grass from humans, soul beasts, and plants 3.
  • Inherits this trait through his first ring; devouring is a martial-soul property, not his first Soul Skill 3.
  • Replenishes energy spent on Healing and teleportation 3 18.
  • Strengthens his martial soul by refining absorbed life essence and elemental resources 13 22.
  • Can spend excess absorbed soul power on Healing while retaining life essence, reducing the danger of holding energy beyond his capacity 13.
  • Uses devouring to kill the liquid slime after sword attacks fail to overcome its regeneration 15.

First Soul Skill: Healing

  • Rapidly closes wounds by consuming soul power; more severe injuries require more energy 3.
  • Works on himself and others, including Old Jack, Dugu Bo, and Dugu Yan 3 4 8 13.
  • Can relieve fatigue even without an open wound 4 18.
  • Complements devouring by allowing him to replace spent soul power 3.
  • Cannot restore drained vitality: After coercing Xiao Wu, it eases her condition but does not replace the life essence he took 18.

Second Soul Skill: Clone Technique

  • Produces a physical copy capable of practicing meditation methods and using his techniques 10 11.
  • Allows him to test dangerous meridian-based cultivation instructions without risking his original body 11.
  • Receives a destroyed clone’s memories, enabling him to identify contradictory energy-flow instructions 11.
  • Uses clones to develop an improved cultivation method and investigate soul-core cultivation 12 17.
  • Can combine cloning with transformation to reproduce the appearances of multiple observed people 16.

Third Soul Skill: Transformation

  • Reshapes his body into convincing copies of other people, demonstrated with Dugu Yan and Dugu Bo 15.
  • Simulates martial-soul appearances, possession features, soul-ring displays, and the visible appearance of external soul bones 15.
  • Does not copy actual abilities: Imitated soul skills and special powers remain unavailable 15.
  • Can reshape his Blue Silver Emperor into a functional spear capable of piercing a large tree; this uses his own martial soul rather than stolen abilities 15.
  • Conceals his true ring configuration as yellow, yellow, and purple during the encounter with Qian Renxue 23.
  • Dugu Bo struggles to distinguish the imitations by appearance alone, but actual combat can expose their limitations 15.

Silver Blue Perception

  • Links his martial soul to surrounding Blue Silver Grass and receives images sensed by the plants 4 17.
  • Monitors people, searches buildings, and locates soul beasts over several kilometers 5 12 14.
  • Initially suffers dizziness from the spiritual-power demands of processing the information 4.
  • Loses much of this advantage where Blue Silver Grass is absent or cannot survive, such as the well’s poisonous surroundings 10.
  • Later increases his spiritual power with Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew 12.

Self-Created Rasengan

  • Develops a rotating soul-power technique using control exercises inspired by Naruto’s tree-climbing and water-walking training 4.
  • The ordinary version destabilizes and explodes when thrown 11.
  • Following Dugu Bo’s advice, adds fire energy to stabilize it as a projectile 11.
  • Its successful ranged test blasts a crater two or three meters across 11.

Cultivation and Medicinal Research

  • Develops a faster cultivation method through repeated clone experiments and shares it with Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan; Xiao Wu later practices it as well 17 22.
  • Matches immortal herbs to martial-soul needs, helping Dugu Yan evolve her serpent martial soul and Ye Lingling break Nine Heart Begonia’s restrictions 9 10 18 19.
  • Recognizes that Dugu Yan’s new dragon martial soul requires different soul-ring choices from her former serpent 12.
  • Proposes a poison-attribute soul core for Dugu Bo, but admits his own cultivation and physical foundation are insufficient to develop the method yet 11 12.
  • Offers an interim poison-storage approach using a limb soul bone and his altered blood; Dugu Bo must obtain the bone himself 12.
  • Possesses detailed knowledge of divine inheritances, including their restrictions and risks 16.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Blue Silver Emperor right-leg soul bone — A hundred-thousand-year soul bone taken from Tang Hao’s hidden cave. Provides flight and automatic self-healing; repairs internal injuries during his third-ring absorption 5 7 10 15.
  • Storage ring — Taken from Yu Xiaogang’s room. Its interior is roughly the size of a small room, allowing Gu to remove the entire book collection 5.
  • Living-storage bracelet — Lent by the Ye Family to preserve living plants and immortal herbs 7 18.
  • Books and herb records — Obtains Yu Xiaogang’s collection, the Breaking Clan’s Herbal Compendium, and the Ye Family’s Immortal Herb Illustrated Record 5 6 7.
  • Homemade gun — Carries it when first leaving Holy Soul Village for Nuoding City; no use is documented in the supplied passages 2.
  • Bladed weapons — Uses a machete for the Soul-Devouring Thorn, a saber for the Thousand-Leaf Clone Vine, and a sword against the liquid slime 3 10 15.
  • Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well garden — Acquires access and ownership from Dugu Bo, harvests its immortal herbs, and develops it into a Blue Silver Grass mimicry training ground 8 9 12 22.
  • Five-element resources — Supplied by the Ye Family to support his elemental martial-soul development 19 20 22.

Relationships

  • Old Jack — Adoptive grandfather who raised him. Gu’s gratitude makes him accompany Jack to Nuoding Academy despite wanting to avoid enrollment 1 4.
  • Su Yuntao — Awakens his martial soul, arranges library access, checks his physique, and helps secure his first soul beast 1 2 3.
  • Sisi — Affectionate early supporter who teases him, supplies food, and accompanies his first soul hunt 2 3.
  • Dugu Bo — Initially an enemy forced to yield through threats against Dugu Yan; becomes a hunting partner, technical adviser, and protective ally 8 10 11 15.
  • Dugu Yan — Beneficiary of his herb knowledge and cultivation guidance. Develops an openly possessive crush; Gu asks her to call him “Big Brother Ping’an” rather than “husband” 10 12 17.
  • Ye Lingling — Offers hospitality during his research. He repays her kindness with Aromatic Silk Beauty, enabling Nine Heart Begonia to develop a tenth petal 6 7 18 19.
  • Ye Qingtang — Ye Family head and patron. Grants him equal standing and authority to request family resources after he brings the immortal herb 19 20.
  • Shen Qingchuan — Ye Qingtang’s husband; initially worries about granting an outsider such authority, then supplies Gu’s requested resources 19 20.
  • Tang San — Fellow Holy Soul Village transmigrator whom Gu regards as a future rival. Gu seeks to deny him resources, allies, and cultivation advantages 5 10 17.
  • Tang Hao — Early source of fear and a continuing strategic concern. Gu steals Ah Yin and her soul bone, then presents hostile interpretations of Tang Hao’s motives to Xiao Wu and Dugu Bo 1 5 21.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Would-be academy authority whom Gu avoids. Gu steals his books and discovers that one collected meditation method contains dangerous contradictions 4 5 11.
  • Xiao Wu — Abducted and forced into servitude through life-force draining. Later becomes more obedient and attached after accepting Gu’s account of the Tang family 17 18 21 22.
  • Qian Renxue — Provokes her into a three-ring duel, using information about Tang Hao as his stake and demanding one of her Titled Douluo guards if he wins 23.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Holy Soul Village and Nuoding

Gu’s awakening gives him access to Spirit Hall’s basic knowledge without immediately exposing the extent of his abilities. He studies independently, obtains his first ring with Su Yuntao and Sisi, and declines to actually enroll at Nuoding Academy despite accompanying Old Jack there 1 2 3 4 5.

When Tang San, Yu Xiaogang, and Tang Hao leave to hunt a ring, Gu exploits their absence to steal Yu Xiaogang’s books and seize the weakened Blue Silver Emperor. The resulting transformation marks the point at which he believes he can finally escape Tang Hao if confronted 5.

Immortal Herbs and the Dugu Alliance

After researching herbs in the Breaking Clan and Ye Family libraries, Gu enters the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. His confrontation with Dugu Bo turns from attempted murder into a forced agreement, then into sustained cooperation as he helps Dugu Yan evolve and offers Dugu Bo a way to manage his poisoning 6 7 8 9 10 12.

Dugu Bo subsequently supports his unusually old second and third rings and contributes practical advice to his self-created combat technique 10 11 14 15.

Disrupting Tang San’s Future

Gu rejects conventional divine inheritance and resolves to dismantle Tang San’s future support network before it forms. His first direct intervention is Xiao Wu’s abduction from Nuoding, carried out through disguise, plant surveillance, and teleportation 17 18 21.

Tang Hao wrongly attributes her disappearance to Gu Rong and confronts the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. Meanwhile, Gu’s accusations against Tang Hao persuade Xiao Wu that remaining with him is safer than returning to Tang San. These accusations are Gu’s interpretation of events, not independently established motives 20 21 22.

Ye Family Alliance and Elemental Cultivation

Gu returns to the Ye Family to honor his promise to Ye Lingling. Her successful martial-soul breakthrough secures him a powerful family alliance and a continuing supply of five-element materials. The family agrees to conceal the breakthrough as a mutation 18 19 20.

A year of cultivation at the well strengthens his five-element martial soul. His search for the missing ultimate-attribute catalysts leads him back into the Star Dou Great Forest and into Qian Renxue’s company 22.

Qian Renxue’s Wager

Gu insults Qian Renxue’s progress, then challenges her to fight while suppressing her power to three rings. He demands the exclusive obedience of either She Long or Ci Xue if she loses and offers information about where Tang Hao will appear if he loses 23.

The supplied account ends during the opening exchange: her Angel’s Sword cuts through his vines, prompting him to compensate for their insufficient toughness with greater numbers. No winner is established 23.
