Background / History
Challenge to the Holy Son
Yan Feng leads the Holy Spirit Cult’s Golden Generation when Feng Ling introduces them to Gu Ming after six years of secluded training. Although he formally greets Gu Ming as Holy Son, he believes the position should belong to him. Feng Ling offers him a ten-thousand-year Soul Bone for defeating Gu Ming, alongside appointment as a consecrated elder once he reaches seven rings. With a ten-level advantage over Gu Ming, Yan Feng expects an easy victory 6.
His opening claw attacks fail to catch Gu Ming’s Spider King, which traps him in a poisonous web. Yan Feng eventually tears free and takes to the air, intending to exploit a spider Martial Soul’s presumed inability to fly. His Dragon Breath clashes with the Spider King’s silk without securing a decisive advantage 6 7.
Yan Feng then uses his strongest skill, Burial Ground, to restrain Gu Ming and drain his vitality and Soul Power. Gu Ming escapes with Instant Flash and retaliates with Darkness Skyfall. Unable to move or muster Soul Power, Yan Feng suffers repeated staff strikes. He surrenders, but a final blow sends him into a wall and knocks him unconscious 7.
Submission and Recovery
After regaining consciousness, Yan Feng renounces the promised Soul Bone, kneels before Gu Ming, and pledges his loyalty. His followers immediately transfer their allegiance to Gu Ming as well. Yan Feng recognizes their extravagant vows as the same ones they previously made to him 7.
Gu Ming gives him a water-attribute healing pill for his external injuries, saying it will speed his recovery and help him progress further. Yan Feng thanks him, and Feng Ling and the elders subsequently dismiss the injured group to recuperate. No resulting increase in Yan Feng’s level is documented 8.
Personality
Yan Feng is ambitious and initially overconfident in his cultivation advantage. He regards Gu Ming as inferior and treats their duel as an opportunity to establish himself as the cult’s future Holy Son. During the battle, he adjusts his tactics from close combat to aerial attacks and finally to a restraining, draining formation 6 7.
Once decisively defeated, he abandons his challenge and openly accepts a subordinate position. He is also cynical about loyalty within the cult: he interprets his followers’ concern after his defeat as fear of Gu Ming’s retaliation rather than genuine brotherly affection 7.
