History

Recruiting the Holy Son

Zhongli Wu and Deputy Cult Leader Feng Ling fund orphanages to discover recruits overlooked by Shrek Academy and the aristocrats of the three great empires. He favors quality over quantity, regarding orphan support as an inexpensive investment that can occasionally yield exceptional talent 1.

During six-year-old Gu Ming’s awakening, Zhongli Wu witnesses the Tianjing Sword and innate full Soul Power, then detects a second Martial Soul before Gu Ming reveals it. The demonic Spider Soul convinces him that he has found the cult’s future Holy Son. He announces Gu Ming’s admission before obtaining his agreement, then releases his own evil aura when the child asks for time to consider 1 2.

Zhongli Wu escorts Gu Ming to the cult’s headquarters in the Evil Demon Forest. Despite the elders’ objections, he insists that the cult needs a younger generation to carry its future. After the Spider King’s intimidating entrance wins most elders’ acceptance, Zhongli Wu slaps the remaining dissenter, Nangong Wan, and threatens to refine him. Zhongli Wu personally takes Gu Ming to obtain his first soul rings.
