There were already people in the classroom. Two familiar figures were sitting by the window, and when they saw Tang Wulin enter, they immediately stood up in excitement.
"Boss!"
"The boss is here!"
They were none other than Ye Xinglan and Xu Lizhi.
Tang Wulin was a little surprised to see them. "Why are you two here too?"
Ye Xinglan lifted her chin smugly. "I already have a guaranteed place at Shrek Academy. How could a genius like me be left out of the Genius Class?"
Xu Lizhi smiled good-naturedly. "Me too. Boss, you have no idea how precious the places in the Genius Class are. Both the academy and our families take it very seriously. Everyone who gets in is a first-rate genius!"
Tang Wulin nodded, inwardly marveling. In the original story, Ye Xinglan and Xu Lizhi had been among Shrek Academy's finest geniuses, with limitless prospects ahead of them. Their presence here was hardly surprising.
"Boss, who's this beside you?" Ye Xinglan looked curiously at Gu Yue.
"Gu Yue, my junior sister," Tang Wulin introduced her. "She's the representative sent by the Spirit Pagoda."
Gu Yue gave a slight nod in greeting. Her expression was calm, betraying no particular emotion.
Ye Xinglan studied Gu Yue for a moment, inwardly surprised. Young as she was, she had a discerning eye and could sense the unfathomable aura around Gu Yue. This quiet-looking little girl was definitely no ordinary person.
Just then, a small figure walked through the doorway.
Her long, silvery-white hair was tied into twin ponytails, and her pale purple eyes were clear and bright. Dressed in a light blue dress, she looked as delicate as a porcelain doll. It was Na'er.
Xu Lizhi's eyes lit up when he saw Na'er. "Na'er's here too? She's the Pavilion Master's personal disciple. I never thought even she'd be joining the Genius Class."
But the next moment, he witnessed something that left him dumbstruck.
Na'er walked straight up to Tang Wulin, tilted her head up, and called out in a clear, bright voice, "Big brother!"
Tang Wulin smiled and ruffled her hair. "You're here?"
"Mm!" Na'er nodded, then looked past Tang Wulin, her gaze landing on Gu Yue behind him.
Their eyes met.
The air seemed to freeze.
Both Ye Xinglan and Xu Lizhi sensed that something was wrong. Na'er and Gu Yue stared at each other without speaking, yet an invisible pressure filled the air, as though two mighty forces were secretly clashing.
Tang Wulin sensed it too, and his scalp prickled.
"Big brother, who is she?" Na'er spoke first, pretending not to know Gu Yue.
"Gu Yue, my junior sister," Tang Wulin forced himself to introduce her. "Gu Yue, this is Na'er, my sworn little sister."
Gu Yue narrowed her eyes slightly as she looked at Na'er, a faint curve forming at the corners of her lips. "Hello."
Na'er returned her smile. "Hello."
On the surface, they were perfectly polite, but Tang Wulin could feel that the tension between them had reached its breaking point. He almost felt as though they might start fighting the very next second.
"Gu Yue," Na'er suddenly said, "I want to sit next to my big brother. Could you move over?"
Gu Yue raised an eyebrow. "I want to sit next to him too. What should we do?"
"Then let's fight over it." Na'er smiled sweetly, but her tone carried a hint of provocation.
"Sure." Gu Yue smiled too, her tone calm but utterly unyielding.
Tang Wulin: "..."
Ye Xinglan: "..."
Xu Lizhi: "..."
For a moment, the scene was painfully awkward. Tang Wulin felt as though his head might burst. He looked at Gu Yue on his left, then Na'er on his right, at a loss for words.
What are you two little tyrants making such a fuss over? Do you really think I don't know you're actually the same person?
"Um..." Xu Lizhi timidly raised a hand. "How about pushing the desks together? Boss can sit in the middle, and you two can sit on either side?"
Tang Wulin's eyes lit up. "Great idea!"
He hurriedly pushed three desks together and sat in the middle, with Gu Yue and Na'er on either side. Both girls were still somewhat reluctant, but at least they stopped arguing.
Tang Wulin let out a breath of relief and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. He had a feeling that the days ahead would be anything but peaceful.
While Tang Wulin was still wrestling with how to handle the delicate atmosphere between Gu Yue and Na'er, footsteps sounded at the classroom door. A handsome young man walked in, dressed in a long white robe. His face was stern, his bearing otherworldly. It was Wu Changkong.
"Everyone, sit down." Wu Changkong glanced around the classroom and spoke calmly.
Everyone immediately returned obediently to their seats. Wu Changkong had quite a reputation at Shrek Academy. Even students with guaranteed places like Ye Xinglan and Xu Lizhi did not dare act up in front of him.
Wu Changkong walked to the lectern, swept his gaze over the six children seated before him, and slowly began:
"Starting today, I will be responsible for you during your time at Shrek Academy. I am your homeroom teacher, Wu Changkong. Teacher Zhuo Shi is in overall charge, and Sea God Pavilion Master Yun Ming will also come to guide you from time to time."
Tang Wulin froze for a moment. Wu Changkong? His homeroom teacher? He had only known that he was coming to Shrek Academy to attend the Genius Class. He had never expected Wu Changkong to be the one in charge.
Isn't fate taking coincidence a little too far? From meeting on the Soul Guidance Train to becoming his student now—what an incredible connection.
Wu Changkong's gaze lingered on Tang Wulin for a moment, and he gave a slight nod in greeting. Their relationship needed no explanation; a single glance was enough.
"However..." Wu Changkong frowned. "We're still missing someone."
Tang Wulin blinked. "There's someone else? Who?"
No sooner had he spoken than another set of footsteps sounded at the classroom door.
A boy walked in, looking a little older than everyone present, perhaps eight or nine years old. She had a striking, heroic face with sharply defined features, and her short hair was neat and tidy.
Her expression was calm, revealing no particular emotion, but her eyes were exceptionally bright, carrying a steadiness beyond her years.
"Hello, everyone. My name is Yuanen Yehui," the boy introduced herself in an even tone, seemingly indifferent to everything around her.
Wu Changkong nodded. "Come in and take a seat."
Yuanen Yehui glanced around the classroom, her gaze lingering on Tang Wulin for a moment before she walked to a seat near the back. Her movements were crisp and decisive, with no unnecessary chatter, and she exuded a cold, austere air.
Ye Xinglan muttered, "She looks so cold."
Xu Lizhi lowered his voice too. "She doesn't seem easy to get along with."
Tang Wulin did not think much of it. He vaguely remembered the name Yuanen Yehui. She seemed to have been a pretty formidable character in the original story, so a somewhat cold personality was only natural.
"All right, six people. Everyone's here." Wu Changkong walked to the center of the platform, his gaze slowly passing over each child present.
"The fact that you were chosen for the Genius Class means your talents stand among the finest of your peers. But let me remind you: talent is only the starting point, not the finish line. Shrek Academy has nurtured countless geniuses, and it has also witnessed countless geniuses fall. If you think talent alone will carry you all the way, you could not be more wrong."
His tone was calm, yet it carried an unquestionable authority. No one spoke. They all listened quietly.
Wu Changkong paused, then continued, "Today is the first day of class, and I need to understand each of your abilities. There will be three tests: Soul power, strength, and spiritual power. The soul power test is the simplest, so we'll start with that."
Before you continue
