He pointed at a soul power testing device in the corner of the classroom. "One at a time. State your name and soul power level."
Xu Lizhi stepped forward first. He rubbed his hands nervously, then pressed his palm against the testing device. It lit up and displayed a number.
"Xu Lizhi, soul power level twenty-one."
Wu Changkong nodded and wrote the number in his notebook. Xu Lizhi scratched his head sheepishly and stepped aside.
Ye Xinglan stepped forward second. Her movements were crisp and decisive as she pressed her palm against the testing device, and it lit up.
"Ye Xinglan, soul power level twenty-three."
"Mm." Wu Changkong continued recording.
Yuanen Yehui stepped forward third. Her expression remained impassive as she pressed her palm against the testing device, and it lit up.
"Yuanen Yehui, soul power level twenty-seven."
Wu Changkong nodded slightly. Level twenty-seven at nine years old was already excellent among ordinary Soul Masters. In the Genius Class, however, it was merely average.
Na'er stepped forward fourth. She skipped over to the testing device and pressed her little hand against it. It lit up.
"Na'er, soul power level twenty-eight."
Wu Changkong's eyes brightened slightly. Na'er was only seven and a half, yet her soul power had already reached level twenty-eight. Her talent was truly astonishing. No wonder Pavilion Master Yun Ming had personally taken her as his disciple.
Gu Yue stepped forward fifth. Her steps were unhurried and her expression calm as she pressed her palm against the testing device. It lit up.
"Gu Yue, soul power level twenty-eight."
Wu Changkong glanced at her and nodded. Another level twenty-eight. The Spirit Pagoda certainly had plenty of hidden geniuses of its own.
Tang Wulin was last. He walked up to the testing device and pressed his palm against it. It lit up.
"Tang Wulin, soul power level thirty-one."
The classroom fell silent for a moment.
Ye Xinglan was the first to react, crying out in surprise, "Thirty-one? Boss, you're already a Soul Elder?"
Xu Lizhi's eyes widened too. "My heavens, Boss, you're only seven and a half, right? A seven-year-old Soul Elder?"
A flicker of surprise also crossed Yuanen Yehui's face, and her gaze grew more scrutinizing as she looked at Tang Wulin. She had thought her level twenty-seven soul power was already quite good. She had never expected this child, who looked a year younger than her, to have already broken through to Soul Elder.
Wu Changkong wrote the number in his notebook, the corners of his mouth lifting in an almost imperceptible smile. Level thirty-one, seven years old, and three Thousand-Year Soul Rings. His little junior brother was anything but ordinary.
"The soul power test is complete." Wu Changkong set down his notebook. "Next, we'll test your strength. Punch the strength testing device. You may use any means available. We'll take your highest reading."
He pointed at a large machine on the other side of the classroom. It looked like a thick metal wall, its surface covered in a soul-guidance array that could precisely measure the force of a punch.
Xu Lizhi stepped forward first. He took a deep breath and punched the metal wall. The testing device lit up and displayed a number.
"Xu Lizhi, maximum strength: thirteen hundred jin."
Xu Lizhi stepped aside sheepishly. He was not a strength-type Soul Master to begin with, so this result was hardly unexpected.
Gu Yue stepped forward second. She clenched her fist and threw a casual punch. The testing device lit up.
"Gu Yue, maximum strength: two thousand jin."
Wu Changkong nodded slightly. Two thousand jin was already quite impressive for a little girl of seven and a half.
Ye Xinglan stepped forward third. With a sharp cry, she drove her fist forward, carrying a fierce surge of sword intent.
"Ye Xinglan, maximum strength: forty-two hundred jin."
Yuanen Yehui stepped forward fourth. She silently clenched her fist and punched, the wind whistling around it.
"Yuanen Yehui, maximum strength: sixty-five hundred jin."
Wu Changkong nodded. Sixty-five hundred jin was already outstanding strength for a nine-year-old.
Na'er stepped forward fifth. Standing before the testing device, she took a deep breath. Silver light gathered around her fist, then she punched.
Bang!
The testing device blazed with dazzling light.
"Na'er, maximum strength: ten thousand jin!"
Ye Xinglan sucked in a sharp breath. "Ten thousand jin? She's only seven and a half!"
Xu Lizhi's mouth fell open too. "Isn't that a little too ridiculous?"
Even Wu Changkong was slightly moved. Ten thousand jin of strength already exceeded the limits of many adult Soul Masters. The strength enhancement provided by the Silver Dragon Spear Martial Soul was extraordinary indeed.
Tang Wulin was last. He walked up to the testing device and flexed his wrist. Of course, he could not possibly use his full strength. If he unleashed all fifty thousand jin, this testing device would probably be ruined. Holding back a little, he threw a punch.
BOOM!!!
The testing device let out a tremendous, muffled crash, and the entire classroom seemed to shake. The numbers on its display jumped wildly before finally settling on a terrifying figure.
"Tang Wulin, maximum strength... fifty thousand jin."
The classroom fell deathly silent.
Ye Xinglan's eyes went wide, her mouth gaping, and she could not speak for a long while. Xu Lizhi was utterly dumbfounded, staring blankly at the number as though he had seen something inconceivable.
Yuanen Yehui's expression finally changed as well. She looked at Tang Wulin, a trace of gravity flashing through her eyes.
Na'er showed little surprise; she had witnessed Tang Wulin's strength long ago. Gu Yue remained perfectly calm, as though she had known this would be the result.
Wu Changkong stared at the number in silence for a long time. Fifty thousand... that figure went beyond his understanding of the word "genius."
"Ahem." Wu Changkong cleared his throat, suppressing his shock. "The strength test is complete. Next, we'll test your spiritual power."
He pointed at a device on the other side of the classroom. "The spiritual power testing device. Simply relax your mind and channel your spiritual power into it."
Ye Xinglan stepped forward first. She closed her eyes and channeled her spiritual power into the testing device. It lit up.
"Ye Xinglan, spiritual power: one hundred and twelve."
Ye Xinglan stepped aside, looking somewhat dejected. Spiritual power a little over a hundred was decent among ordinary people, but in the Genius Class, it clearly fell short.
Xu Lizhi stepped forward second. The device lit up.
"Xu Lizhi, spiritual power: two hundred and thirty."
Xu Lizhi let out a relieved breath. He was fairly satisfied with that result.
Yuanen Yehui stepped forward third. The device lit up.
"Yuanen Yehui, spiritual power: 180."
Na'er stepped forward fourth. The device lit up.
"Na'er, spiritual power: three hundred and fifty."
Wu Changkong nodded slightly. Three hundred and fifty. Her spiritual power already surpassed that of many adult Soul Masters. She certainly lived up to her status as the Pavilion Master's disciple.
Tang Wulin stepped forward fifth. He closed his eyes and channeled his spiritual power into the testing device. It lit up.
"Tang Wulin, spiritual power: five hundred and twenty."
Ye Xinglan sucked in a sharp breath. "Over five hundred? Boss, just what kind of monster are you?"
Wu Changkong looked surprised as well. Spiritual power of five hundred and twenty was already approaching the level of a Soul Emperor. Just how many trump cards did his little junior brother still have hidden away?
Gu Yue was last. She stepped forward, closed her eyes, and channeled her spiritual power into the testing device. It lit up, and the numbers jumped wildly.
"Gu Yue, spiritual power... seven hundred and ten."
The classroom fell deathly silent once again.
Spiritual power of seven hundred and ten could no longer be described by the word "genius." Even many powerful Soul Saints and Soul Douluos might not possess spiritual power at this level. Yet Gu Yue was only a six-year-old girl.
Wu Changkong stared at the number without speaking for a long time. He finally understood why Pavilion Master Yun Ming attached such importance to the Genius Class. Every one of these children was a monster among monsters. And he was responsible for teaching them.
Suddenly, he felt that the burden on his shoulders was far heavier than he had imagined.
