Background / History
Wu Changkong tells Guang Biao that he was driven out of an unnamed place because of his bad temper. Guang Biao recognizes a connection between Wu and a powerful institution, but the exchange does not identify it 86.
He also belongs to a longstanding organization founded on justice, equality, fairness, and protection. Its activities span the Three Continents. Wu can recommend prospective members, but cannot admit them himself; candidates must pass an assessment before learning the organization’s name 116 117.
Appearance
Wu is a handsome young man with a cold, upright bearing, commonly dressed in white 51 81 85.
- Hair: Long, lake-blue hair, worn loose down his back or behind his shoulders 84 85.
- Eyes: Dark green, described as cold and clear 85.
- Clothing: Simple white shirts and trousers during lessons, an old-fashioned white robe in the evening, and moon-white pajamas in his quarters 51 80 84.
- Signature image: White robes, flowing hair, and the pale-blue Heavenly Frost Sword 85 86.
Personality
Wu is blunt, proud, and difficult to intimidate. He warns new students to transfer or withdraw if they fear hardship, exhaustion, or pain. His criticism applies to winners as well as losers: victory does not excuse poor technique, recklessness, or damaged uniforms 47 51 56.
His disregard for academy rules frequently frustrates Long Hengxu. Nevertheless, he can compromise when doing so benefits his students, including personally apologizing to Long while arranging Gu Yue’s admission. He judges her ability rather than rejecting her for missing enrollment 62 63 66 67.
Beneath his severe manner, Wu is fiercely protective. He defends his students against bullying and outside threats, explicitly refusing to blame them when they have done nothing wrong. His care is usually practical rather than affectionate: he imposes safety restrictions, monitors dangerous transformations, and postpones testing until a student has recovered 62 87 132 151.
He values persistence, responsibility, and judgment alongside talent. Tang Wulin’s endurance, willingness to reflect after defeat, and instinct to protect teammates make Wu regard him as a potential leader rather than merely a strong fighter. Wu’s emotional reserve also briefly softens when he holds the Heavenly Frost Sword, which he regards as an extension of himself 86 125 139.
Abilities & Skills
Heavenly Frost Sword
Wu’s martial soul manifests as a slender, pale-blue or ice-blue longsword. He has nurtured it through spiritual power and tempered it with his heart and mind 86 153.
- Soul rings: Two yellow, two purple, and two black rings; the black rings are ten-thousand-year rings 85 86.
- Extreme-cold sword energy: Penetrates an opponent’s body and meridians, interfering with soul-power circulation and perception 86.
- Controlled freezing: Immobilizes Zhang Yangzi and Wang Jinxi with two sword taps during training 153.
- Restraint: Stops his blade short of Guang Biao’s face and withdraws the invading sword energy rather than killing him 86.
- Demonstrated power: Defeats Guang Biao, another Six-Ring Soul Emperor, with only two sword strikes 87.
Swordsmanship and Precision
Wu defeats attacks by targeting their structure, timing, and weak points rather than relying solely on greater soul power 69 113 153.
- Turns a flexible belt rigid like a sword, then lets it become whip-like to expose Xie Xie’s dependence on speed 54.
- Uses a wooden sword against Tang Wulin, Xie Xie, and Gu Yue without releasing his martial soul or using soul skills 69.
- Breaks apart Wind Blades and Fireballs by striking their vulnerable cores 113 153.
- Redirects Tang Wulin’s hammer by striking his wrist at the instant force passes into the weapon 113.
- Uses joint strikes and changes of angle to numb limbs, interrupt attacks, and destroy balance 113.
Footwork and Battlefield Control
Wu’s movement creates decisive changes in distance and positioning with very small steps 113 116.
- Evades the Star-Sinking Hammer with a shift of roughly half an inch and opens sufficient distance with a single backward step 113 116.
- Separates coordinated attackers and creates one-on-one openings during group sparring 69.
- Demonstrates his techniques while suppressing his soul power to his students’ level and withholding soul skills 113 153.
- The specialized footwork belongs to his organization; learning it requires admission through an assessment 116.
Instruction and Cultivation Guidance
Wu builds his lessons around actual combat, targeted criticism, physical conditioning, and individual assessment 51 56 68.
- Combat fundamentals: Teaches footwork, distance, balance, timing, force, judgment, and battlefield control 113.
- Physical conditioning: Assigns ten 800-meter laps as a warm-up, with Tang Wulin and Xie Xie wearing 20-jin Iron Garments 63.
- Tailored training: Replaces Tang Wulin’s general conditioning with hammer drills once his strength and endurance outgrow the group exercises 70.
- Meditation: Teaches a more complicated and effective meditation technique than the students’ elementary-academy method 68.
- Team organization: Assigns Tang Wulin frontal suppression, Gu Yue variation and control, and Xie Xie opening exploitation and finishing attacks 70.
- Elemental development: Encourages Gu Yue to progress from switching elements to stable combinations and fusion 69.
- Long-term preparation: Introduces battle armor and advises students to choose a supporting second profession by their third year 111 112.
Martial Soul and Bloodline Analysis
Wu uses observation, physical tests, ancient records, and soul-power examination to investigate unusual abilities 81 116 121 154.
- Identifies Tang Wulin’s golden transformation as a force already sealed inside his body, rather than an ordinary soul skill or Martial Soul Fusion Skill 81.
- Proposes a second-awakening or bloodline-mutation explanation for the linked changes to Tang’s body, martial soul, and soul spirit. This remains a hypothesis; Tang does not disclose the Golden Dragon King’s seals to him 116.
- Establishes that Tang’s Dragon Might can suppress Wang Jinxi under hostility but strengthen him under goodwill 121.
- Explains that spiritual power limits how many outside cultivation influences Tang can manage simultaneously 121 122.
- Recognizes Little Ant’s evolution and monitors the growing connection between Tang’s bloodline, soul spirit, and Star-Sinking Hammer 132.
- Requires physical testing before endorsing Tang’s attempt to obtain thousand-year rings during the one-ring stage 151.
