Background / History
Xie Xie arrives in Eastsea accompanied by two black-clad attendants who address him as “Young master.” When Tang Wulin accidentally bumps into him and apologizes, Xie Xie gives him only a brief glance; an attendant shoves and insults Tang Wulin. His later ability to advance a substantial repair payment further establishes the difference between their financial circumstances 34 39 40.
Dormitory Conflict
Upon entering Dormitory 205, Xie Xie finds the room wrecked by Tang Wulin’s confrontation with Zhou Changxi. He nudges aside clothing blocking the doorway, which the still-furious Tang Wulin mistakes for deliberate disrespect. Their ensuing fight ends with Xie Xie punched into the corridor wall, his face swollen and his mouth bleeding 37 38.
Long Hengxu orders him to write a thousand-word self-criticism and share repair costs with Tang Wulin, criticizing his decision to exchange blows in a room that restricts his agility. Back in the dormitory, Xie Xie explains that he did not kick Tang Wulin’s belongings intentionally 38.
When the academy assesses repairs at 34,000 Federation Credits, Xie Xie offers to advance the money on the condition that Tang Wulin fight him again. He later accepts 10,000 Credits toward repayment and is surprised to learn that Tang Wulin earned it through forging and passed the Level Two Blacksmith assessment 39 40 45.
Class Five and the Park Rematch
Xie Xie joins Tang Wulin, Yun Xiao, and Zhou Changxi in Class Five, the academy’s lowest-ranked first-year class. Despite that placement, his rank-eighteen soul power makes him the most outstanding cultivator among its twenty students 46 47.
Seeking to reclaim his pride, he takes Tang Wulin to a secluded clearing in Eastsea Park. The open terrain allows him to exploit his speed and combat experience. After recognizing the danger of Tang Wulin’s strength and hammer, he uses afterimages to draw out an attack, wounds Tang Wulin’s shoulder, and demands surrender at knifepoint 48 49.
The wound triggers Tang Wulin’s unexplained golden-scaled transformation. His empowered punch knocks Xie Xie unconscious, reversing the fight. Tang Wulin later carries him back to the academy 49.
Xie Xie questions the transformation and notices that the dagger wound has disappeared. After receiving treatment, he stops pressing for an explanation and instead warns Tang Wulin not to use an ability he does not understand on anyone else 50.
Appearance
- Hair: Short and brown 37.
- Complexion and features: Very fair skin and finely sculpted, delicate features 34 37.
- Expression: Cold eyes and a habitually aloof demeanor 34.
- Clothing: Wears a blue tracksuit during his station appearance 34.
Personality
Xie Xie is proud, reserved, and highly confident in his fighting ability. He treats his first defeat as an affront to his pride, refuses Yun Xiao’s suggestion to abandon the dispute, and arranges a rematch in terrain better suited to his strengths. Nevertheless, he reassesses Tang Wulin once the latter demonstrates rapid adaptation and dangerous close-range power 40 45 48 49.
His concern tends to emerge through blunt practical advice rather than warmth. He tells Tang Wulin to secure Liu Yuxin’s camera before their fight and later cautions him against using his uncontrolled transformation. His willingness to advance the repair money helps Tang Wulin, although he explicitly ties that assistance to another duel 39 47 50.
Abilities & Skills
Light Dragon Dagger
- Manifests as a crystalline yellow dagger with a thin thread of golden light along its cutting edge 48.
- Channels a sharp golden line from its edge when his first soul ring activates; the technique’s name is not provided 37.
- Delivers precise attacks capable of cutting clothing and piercing Tang Wulin’s shoulder. Soul power from the wound numbs Tang Wulin’s arm 48 49.
- Trembles and is forced out of Tang Wulin’s flesh during the golden-scaled transformation 49.
Agility and Footwork
- Uses rapid, short steps, a low center of gravity, and frequent direction changes to make his approach difficult to track 48.
- Exploits openings between an opponent’s attacks instead of contesting superior strength directly 48.
- Reaches sufficient speed to create three brief afterimages; these are visual effects of movement, not separate bodies 49.
- Performs evasive maneuvers using his waist and back strength, narrowly avoiding a low hammer sweep 48.
- Loses room to maneuver in confined spaces, while Tang Wulin’s downward pressure can briefly slow his steps 37 38 48.
Combat Judgment
- Recognizes Tang Wulin’s close-range threat and changes tactics rather than continuing to underestimate him 48 49.
- Draws out Tang Wulin’s ground attack with afterimages, then enters from the side to land a shoulder stab 49.
- Gains the upper hand in the park duel but cannot anticipate Tang Wulin’s sudden transformation 49.
Equipment / Items
- Storage Soul Tool — Used to retrieve a clean sheet after the dormitory fight; its form and capacity are unspecified 38.
Relationships
- Tang Wulin — Roommate, classmate, rival, and debtor. Their initial misunderstanding leads to two fights, but Tang Wulin’s care after the rematch and Xie Xie’s warning about uncontrolled power introduce concern beneath their hostility 38 39 45 49 50.
- Yun Xiao — Roommate and classmate. Gives a fair account of the dormitory fight and later urges Xie Xie to let the dispute go; Xie Xie insists it is between himself and Tang Wulin 38 40 46.
- Zhou Changxi — Roommate and classmate whose bullying of Tang Wulin sets off the confrontation Xie Xie enters 37 38 46.
- Wu Changkong — Homeroom teacher. Responds without visible surprise to Xie Xie’s unusually high rank and subjects Class Five to his demanding expectations 46 47.
- Long Hengxu — Academy disciplinarian who punishes him for escalating the dormitory fight instead of disengaging 38.
