Jin Uchiha's brows knitted tightly together.
He caught on almost immediately. Shikaku Nara couldn't possibly be that stupid, so what exactly was he up to this time?
Were they not even bothering to investigate just because the dead were Uchiha?
Or had the war reached a point where the village didn't want any more infighting over this?
His mind raced.
But ultimately, none of that really mattered. What he truly cared about was whether Shikaku Nara had already set his sights on him.
Then he reconsidered. Fuck it. Stop thinking about it.
Whether Shikaku Nara had noticed anything or not, he hadn't said so outright. There was no point in Jin getting worked up over it.
What he needed most right now was time.
He just had to keep his head down and grow stronger. Once he crossed the threshold into Kage-level strength, what would it matter if everything came out?
In this Shinobi World, strength was the only argument that counted.
Once he had thought that through, he chuckled.
"So that's what this was all about."
"This actually works out pretty well for me."
"With Yoshio Uchiha and his cronies dead, my life should be a lot easier from now on."
Meanwhile, as Shisui watched Jin Uchiha go on about it, his expression grew increasingly conflicted.
He couldn't help it.
He was kindhearted and simply couldn't agree with Jin Uchiha's way of looking at things.
But he also knew how Yoshio Uchiha and those bastards had bullied Jin Uchiha over the years. However uncomfortable he felt, he could only keep his mouth shut.
He shook his head with a wry smile and let out a heavy breath.
"All right, let's drop it."
"I brought everything you asked for."
"Take a look. See if it's what you wanted."
Not wanting to continue that conversation, Shisui pulled three scrolls straight out of his clothes.
Jin Uchiha's eyes lit up at the sight.
He checked the first scroll. Inside, everything was neatly arranged—three thousand Explosive Tags, five hundred Fine Steel Kunai, and two hundred Shuriken.
The corners of his mouth twitched as he muttered inwardly.
The Uchiha clan really is fucking loaded.
One Explosive Tag cost a thousand ryo. That alone came to two million ryo.
Add the Kunai and Shuriken, and the contents of this scroll alone were worth nearly five million ryo.
No wonder.
In the original story, after the Uchiha were wiped out, the village took possession of the entire clan's assets, and Sasuke hadn't even bothered to give them a glance.
Even if someone had skimmed off the bulk of the money, the scraps left over were probably enough for Sasuke to blow through for the rest of his life.
Besides, revenge was the only thing on his mind. He probably had no real concept of money.
When Jin first transmigrated, he had thought the nine hundred thousand ryo his parents left him was a considerable sum.
Looking at it now, he had been far too naive.
The compensation the clan had tossed his way alone was worth five million ryo.
By comparison, his parents had practically been paupers.
At that thought, he couldn't hold his tongue.
"Shisui, isn't this way too much?"
"Did you pay out of your own pocket to add more for me?"
Shisui grinned when he heard that.
He waved a hand with a laugh and shrugged.
"What are you talking about? This is just the compensation the clan gave you."
"Five million ryo at most. Is that really so much?"
"Any B-Rank mission I take starts at six hundred thousand ryo. An A-rank starts at two million."
"Whether it's for the clan or me, this scroll is only worth a few missions."
"The other two scrolls are what's really valuable."
"The second scroll holds the sword my grandfather's great-uncle used in his younger days. It's worth at least five hundred million on price alone. It contains plenty of Chakra Metal, along with a little Otherworldly Meteoric Iron."
"The swordsmanship that comes with it has also been passed down through the Uchiha clan. It's every bit as good as Hatake Swordsmanship. There just aren't many good swordsmen in our clan."
"The third scroll is the most valuable."
"Izanagi and Izanami. Those are the clan's most closely guarded secrets. Now those are truly priceless."
Hearing that, Jin Uchiha felt a chill all the way down to his back teeth.
Holy shit.
That's a great clan with a thousand years of history for you.
No wonder the Hokage's faction had been dreaming up ways to destroy the Uchiha ever since the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju.
Fuck, they're swimming in money.
Never mind the enormous fortune the clan had amassed over a thousand years. Just the few things Shisui had casually handed him would make countless ordinary people's eyes pop out if they saw them.
Even among second-tier clans like the three Ino–Shika–Cho households, the Sarutobi Household, and the Shimura Household, probably only their very best elites could put together a set of equipment like this.
As for third-tier clans like the Aburame and Inuzuka, they weren't even worth mentioning.
The Hatake were even further out of the question.
Sakumo Hatake had made a name for himself through his swordsmanship alone.
Yet the Uchiha could casually produce a set of sword techniques every bit as good as his.
That was what deep roots bought you.
In the entire Hidden Leaf, only the Hyuga Household could barely hold its own against the Uchiha.
At those thoughts, he couldn't help sighing.
The Uchiha really did bring their destruction on themselves.
They sat on such a vast fortune, yet lacked the strength and ruthlessness to protect it.
Who else would get wiped out if not you?
The moment the Uchiha fell, the Hidden Leaf struck it rich overnight.
One whale fell, and countless lives flourished.
While his thoughts kept churning, Shisui spoke again with a smile.
"Want to go to the training grounds?"
"We've still got a little time. I can give you some pointers."
"Tomorrow—"
Worry filled Shisui's face.
He knew perfectly well that Jin Uchiha was no genius.
An ordinary ninja like him couldn't possibly get a Jonin as his team leader. At best, he would get a Chunin with battlefield experience.
Worse still, these hastily assembled teams had no time to learn to work together.
Usually, they were sent straight to the battlefield the same day they were assigned.
He genuinely couldn't stop worrying.
That was why he wanted to give Jin some proper training while they still had time.
He wasn't bragging. Though he was only a Chunin right now, an ordinary Jonin really couldn't beat him.
He might have been kindhearted and naive, but he still knew who mattered most to him.
Jin Uchiha had been his friend since childhood, and his parents had died because of Shisui's grandfather. Shisui truly treated Jin like his own younger brother.
So what if I give him a little special treatment?
Who doesn't do that?
Did anyone really think an ordinary Uchiha could get this much compensation?
Put plainly, Fugaku, the clan head, had only done it as a favor to Shisui.
As for the Tachi, the swordsmanship, and the Sharingan's secret techniques, Shisui had provided those out of his own private funds.
But as soon as Jin Uchiha heard the offer, he shook his head like a rattle.
"No, let's not."
"Tomorrow, we'll be assigned to teams and hauled straight onto the battlefield to risk our lives."
"Right now, I just want to get some proper rest and be at my best."
"If I train too hard today, how will I have any energy tomorrow?"
"Shisui, forget it."
"I know you mean well and you're looking out for me."
"But with my talent, how much good could one day of training do?"
"What I need right now is to rest and conserve my strength."
