Minato Namikaze's gaze slowly darkened.
When he had arrived at the scene, he had only one thought in his head: to rescue Rin Nohara. He had had no energy to spare for anything else.
But looking back now, Obito had most likely already used his Mangekyō Sharingan, and the ANBU watching from the shadows had caught sight of it.
Danzo, who had been fighting on the front line, had probably seen it just as clearly.
Minato's heart tightened.
He had always wanted to keep Obito out of the village's tangled troubles, to stop his student from being drawn into Konoha's dark vortex. Who could have imagined that, after all those twists and turns, things would still come to this?
Nothing had changed.
He really should have anticipated this outcome long ago.
Minato Namikaze knew very well how important the Mangekyō Sharingan was. It was not merely the power the Uchiha Clan dreamed of obtaining, but a strategic trump card that all of Konoha had to take seriously.
As Jin had put it in his previous life, this thing was basically the Shinobi World's version of a nuclear bomb.
It could suppress a tailed beast with genjutsu, unleash the astonishingly powerful Susanoo, and grant all sorts of special abilities that were almost impossible to guard against. In wartime, an Uchiha with the Mangekyo could go toe-to-toe with a tailed beast.
The Hyuga Clan's Byakugan was certainly precious too, but it was more like a radar with an enormous range, capable of reconnaissance and seeing through things. Its role was equally irreplaceable.
But no matter how good a radar was, it was still no nuclear bomb.
So, in the eyes of the major ninja villages, the Byakugan could at most make them wary, whereas the Mangekyō Sharingan was enough to inspire fear.
