Uchiha Itachi brooded for a long while.
Only after drawing a deep breath did he turn his gaze to Jin Uchiha.
Without another moment's hesitation, he poured out everything he had learned on the battlefield, holding nothing back.
When he finished, he asked:
"Teacher, why?"
"No matter how hard I think, I can't understand why people have to wage war."
"Can't they just live their lives in peace?"

Itachi's little face was twisted with anguish.
Looking at him, Jin Uchiha felt something tug at his heart, even though he knew how ruthless this boy's methods had been in the original story.
He was only four.
Unable to help himself, Jin reached out and ruffled Itachi's hair, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
"Don't push yourself so hard, Itachi."
"Normally, I wouldn't discuss such heavy questions with a child your age."
"But I can see it."
"You're no ordinary child. You've already started pondering questions this profound at such a young age."
"If I don't help you build a sound worldview now, you're bound to go down the wrong path later."
Jin Uchiha felt a swell of emotion.
It was true.
What four-year-old thought about things like this?
Never mind the young people in his previous life who were still holed up playing games and chasing girls well into their twenties. Even in the chaotic world of Naruto, the loftiest ambition a four- or five-year-old had was becoming Hokage.
