The enemy was far stronger than Obito had imagined. With no other options left, he had already begun thinking about how to increase his own strength.
"Where are you looking?"
The instant Obito faltered, Sasuke appeared before him. Black flames mingled with blue lightning, gathering into a black Chidori in Sasuke's hand.
Normally, Obito would not need to dodge Sasuke's attack while intangible, but now a sudden sense of danger rose in his heart.
By the time Obito tried to heed that instinct and dodge, it was already too late. Although Sasuke's attack struck only his phantom image, the lightning seemed capable of piercing space, sending a tingling sensation through Obito's abdomen. Worse still, the terrifying black flames showed signs of spreading into the space where his body was hidden.
Obito quickly pulled his body out. By then, his Red Cloud Cloak had begun to burn. He immediately discarded it, but the black flames continued burning relentlessly over the cloak.
"How is this possible?!"
Ever since he had begun fighting Sasuke, Obito had encountered far too many strange things he had never seen before.
"I saw it. That body of yours hiding in the shadows."
After landing his blow, Sasuke raised his eyes and turned around again. His eyes had already evolved into the Rinnegan, and he could feel power surging through them and his body.
"The Rinnegan! Uchiha Itachi—did he give you the Rinnegan?!"
Sasuke did not answer Obito's question. He saw no reason to waste words on a dead man.
In the next instant, Sasuke appeared at Obito's side.
