Uchiha Ken did not want to acknowledge the darkness in his heart. He knew it was unreasonable. His adoptive father had plotted against their father; in their place, he would surely have treated him the same way. Yet when he was the one facing that treatment, he found it unbearable. He had never taken part in any of it.
Seeing Uchiha Ken's expression, Fujimura Yuki knew it was because of Asuna and the others, who had just passed them. "You must be exhausted, Ken. Go back and get some rest."
As he spoke, Fujimura Yuki took Uchiha Ken by the arm and hurried back toward the Command Tent. Just before they reached it, Uchiha Ken slapped his hand away. "Let me be alone for a while." With that, he walked into the Command Tent without looking back.
Fujimura Yuki kept his hand suspended where it had been knocked aside and exchanged a glance with Kurihara Kana, who had followed them. He slowly lowered his hand, shrugged, and turned to leave. Only after they were well away from the Command Tent did he say, "I knew Ken would take this badly, but I didn't expect such a strong reaction."
"He was always rather sensitive, wasn't he?" said Kurihara Kana. "His appearance just hid it. I'm not particularly good at the psychological research we do in the Medical Department, but I know Ken isn't nearly as strong inside as he looks."
"And his adoptive father was the one who caused all this. He really respected him. After his own father died, Uchiha Setsuna took him in. I can imagine how hard it must be to discover that someone like that was a traitor to the village," said Fujimura Yuki.
