Ch. 401Magic Glasses, Dog Heads Everywhere
Plot points and events
- Fang Cheng tests Tang Shiba’s magical glasses and discovers they show dog heads for anyone who has owned a dog. Tang Shiba appears as “Er Gou” to him, while his brother Si Doll looks like an inflatable doll. The glasses’ system admits it made Tang Shiba easy to identify and is threatened with losing access to her points.
- Fang Cheng and Tang Shiba roam the Haunted House, scaring visitors, until Si Doll approaches. Fang Cheng rushes out to scare him, but Si Doll recognizes him, knocks him down, and prepares to kill him with a hidden needle.
- Tang Shiba intervenes, attacking Si Doll with a spiked club and hurling insults at him through a voice changer that gives her a deep male voice. Si Doll avoids the club and retreats deeper into the Haunted House; Fang Cheng follows, eager to confront Tang Lin.
- The Haunted House manager advertises the return of the “Ghost King,” bringing in a rush of excited customers.
- Tang Lin, already frightened by earlier scares, hears reports of ghosts charging through the building. Tang Shiba spots him and chases him, calling him “Er Gou” and pretending she is coming to catch him. Tang Lin flees, mistakenly believing the ghost has singled him out.
Character developments and interactions
- Fang Cheng shifts from laughing at the glasses’ effects to relying on Tang Shiba for protection. He is impressed by her beating and insulting Si Doll, and grows excited at the prospect of confronting Tang Lin.
- Tang Shiba proves fiercely protective when Si Doll threatens Fang Cheng. She uses the club and voice changer to intimidate him, then turns the glasses’ “Er Gou” gag into a way to scare Tang Lin.
- Si Doll is revealed as willing to murder Fang Cheng when he finds him alone, but he is forced to flee rather than fight Tang Shiba directly.
- Tang Lin remains unaware of the others’ identities and interprets the staged pursuit as a genuine haunting. His frightened flight contrasts with the crowd’s excitement.
- The system is comic relief: its botched glasses earn Tang Shiba’s anger, though it quickly tries to help by providing a voice changer.
Significant themes
- Comedy through mistaken identity: The magical glasses, “Er Gou” nickname, and voice changer repeatedly confuse characters and fuel the scares.
- Reversal of roles: The supposed ghosts become the aggressors, while Si Doll—normally positioned to frighten visitors—ends up dodging and fleeing.
- Loyalty amid danger: Tang Shiba risks exposing herself to save Fang Cheng from Si Doll.
- Fear as entertainment: The Haunted House’s scares terrify visitors while drawing a delighted crowd eager to experience the “Ghost King.”
