"I should go back to work tomorrow, too." After looking through the mountain of files on his computer, Gao Ming really didn't think he was cut out to be a teacher. In his current state, he was worried he might drive his students insane.
"What else could I do besides teaching? I remember I wasn't a teacher in the nightmare. Maybe doing the same job I had in that dream would help me remember something." Since waking up, Gao Ming had met more and more people in reality, only to find himself drifting further and further from his memories of the nightmare. He was afraid that one day he would forget it entirely.
It was hard to believe, but even though the nightmare had been filled with death and terror, Gao Ming didn't want to lose those memories.
"Maybe it's because I never had to worry about money in that dream."
After tidying up the kitchen, Gao Ming returned to the living room.
Calling it a living room was a stretch. The living room and bedroom were actually one space; when it was time to sleep, Liu Yi would simply draw the curtain between the bed and the desks and dining table.
Gao Ming opened his computer and stared at the heavily annotated lesson plans, utterly baffled. He had no idea where to begin. Yet when he opened his phone and found an unfinished little family-themed game, he immediately started polishing it, deftly working with all kinds of software.
Beside him, Liu Yi saw him switch from work to play after only a few minutes, but said nothing. She looked at him like a loving mother watching her dim-witted son. "You've only just recovered. Do whatever makes you happy."
